FARMNOTES
By J. B. BUTLER
County Agent
Since the county fair is just
over, I can say we had a busy
week last week. I don’t believe I
have ever seen people enter their
exhibits in a fair with more in
terest and enthusiasm than was
shown at the fair last week.
I want to express my gratitude
for the cooperation of the farm
ers and town people in helping
make this fair one of the best
that we have ever had in Chat
tooga County. Congratulations to
the chairmen of each department
that displayed the exhibits in the
gym. Many compliments were
passed on the arrangements and
decorations of the various exhib
its and I want to pass it on to
the ones who were responsible.
Most of the livestock was in
good condition and they showed
that a good bit of time had been
spent in getting these cattle
ready to show. We also had a very
good poultry show, with several
coops of New Hampshires that
were good.

Educators Praise the
State Vet Program
ATLANTA, Oct. 22 (GPS).—
Georgias new education program
for veterans, now under direct
supervision of the veterans’ serv
ice board, came in for much
praise at the recent closed ses
sion by Dr. M. D. Collins and Dr.
M. D. Mobley, officials of the
state education department and
by F. A. Sams, new assistant di
rector of the department of vet-

erans service, according to Direc
tor C. Arthur Cheatham.
Former coordinator for the vet
erans' education council and once
a severe critic of the veterans’
education program in Georgia,
Sams expressed satisiaction over
the change which placed on-the
job and institutional training
directly under the service board
rather than the council.
The council was abolished Oct.
1 because a new Federal law re
quires the service board to ad
minister Federal funds for the
program. Sams’ appointment as
assistant director in charge of
education for the service depart
ment was approved at the meet
ing.
Besides praising the new set
up, Dr. Collins, state superin
tendent of schools, and Dr. Mob
ley, director of vocational edu
cation, offered full cooperation of
their agencies. An advisory edu
cation council has been appoint
ed with Dr. Collins as chairman.

flowers were attractively arrang
ed on the tables in the dining
room.
The business meeting was held
first. Interesting reports were

Plans were laid for exchange pro
grams with the Cedartown Music
Club and news of state musical
events was given by Mrs. Bank
son.
After the business meeting, a
delightful social hour was en
joyed. Then Mrs. W. J. Culpepper
presented a most interesting
study of several types of Ameri

Mountain.” Then she gave some
highlights on “Cowboy Music,”
using as illustrations the song,
“Whoopee, Yi, Yi, Yo, Git Along
Little Dogies,” “The Old Chisholm
