College, Rome, was luncheon
guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs.
Duke M. Espy.
Mrs. Bill Nichols and little son
left last week for New York
where they are to sail for Ger
many to join Major Nichols, who
is stationed there with the army.
Mrs. Nichols has been here with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H.
Glenn, for several months.
Mrs. Lemmie Baker and Miss
Lula Hood were week-end guests
of their sister, Mrs. Walker, in
LaFayette.
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin Pledger
and Mrs. Francis Woodstock
were visiting in Scottsboro, Ala.,

The many friends of Mrs. Lema
Lanier will be sorry to hear that
on the day she moved to Tunnel
Hill she fell, breaking her arm
and injuring her back. She is
confined to her bed.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard O’Neil,
Mrs. I. S. Flanagan and Roscoe
Flanagan, of Chattanooga, were
dinner guests Sunday night of
Mr and Mrs. J. W. Flanagan and
family.

ami, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Freeman, of Atlanta, returned
Monday after spending the week
end here with relatives.
Misses Helen Toles, of Rome,
and Sara Rucker, of Clermont,
Ga., spent the week-end with
Miss Toles’ parents, Mr. and
Mrs. T. T. Toles. Miss Toles and
Miss Rucker were roommates
while they attended college at
Young Harris.
PRESBYTERIAN AUXILIARY
MET NOVEMBER 18
The Woman’s Auxiliary of the
Presbyterian Church met Mon
day afternoon, Nov. 18, at 3
o’clock in the home of Mrs. J.
O. Meadows.
The meeting was called to or
der by the president, Mrs. Wyatt
Ransom. The Rev. Harry Foster
offered the opening prayer which
! was followed by the regular
reading of business. Excellent re
ports were given by the general
officers, circle chairmen and
cause secretaries. The president
announced the Presbyterial dates
which have been set by the sy
nodical president as April 29-30.
1947. This meeting to be held
in Summerville.
At the conclusion of the bus
iness session. Mrs. Foster, who
is Spiritual Life secretary, had
charge of the program. “Ameri
ca” was used as the opening
hymn. Mrs. Foster then present
ed Mr. Foster, who gave a brief
helpful talk on Stewardship. Ap
propriate scripture passages and
the eighth chapter from the
book, “I Want to Know,” were
given by the leader and the miz
pah benediction was used as a
closing prayer.

having a mallard duck to fly
through his automobile wind
shield and fall dead on the front
seat beside him.

Mrs. Mamie M. Gilreath an
nounces the'engagement of her
daugter, Ella Jean Gilreath, and
Herman M. Hall, of Lyerly. The
wedding will be an event of early
spring.
The bride-elect is a graduate
of Summerville High School. She
holds the position of payroll
clerk for the Summerville Man
ufacturing Co. She is the sister
of Deforest and Thomas Gil
i realtn.
The prospective bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil R.
Hall, of Lyerly. He is the brother
of Miss Mary Hall, of Lyerly. A
graduate of Lyerly High School,
Mr. Hall recently received his
discharge after serving four
years with the Army Air Corps.
He is owner and manager of the
Halcrait Boat Co., of Lyerly.

RITES HELD
Miss Elizabeth Jane Prickett,
daughter of Mrs. T. D. Edwards,
of Trion, became the bride oi
Robert G. Massey, son of Mr.
and Mrs. C. E. Massey, of Men
lo, on Nov. 16. The ceremony was
performed by the Rev. H. L.
Cochran at the Methodist
Church in Trion.
The bride’s only attendant was
her aunt, Mrs. J. H. Anderson,
of Huntsville, Ala.
Mrs. Massey is the sister of
Mrs. Gene L. Clenen, of Tsing
| thao, China. She was graduated
' from the Trion High School in
1945.
The bridegroom is the brother
of Leroy, J. D. and Ernest Mas
-1 sey, all of Menlo. He is a grad
uate of Menlo High School. He
was discharged from the army
in June after serving 14 months
in Germany. The couple will re
side in Menlo.

guests of the William Marsh
chapter, D. A. R., of LaFayette.
