SUCCESSFUL
PARENTHOOD
Post-Natal Exercise Necessary
A figure-improving compaign
following the birth of a baby
should have your doctor’s O. K.,
for post-natal months need su
pervision as well as the pre-natal
period. He will give you specific
exercises and will tell you when
it is time to begin them. Six
weeks after the baby comes is as
early as you can expect the go
ahead signal, with plenty of
warning to start gradually.
So another six weeks go by and
you’re apt to be disappointed be
cause your measurements still
aren’t pre-baby. There are two
reasons for this: it simply takes
longer than three months for the
figure to recover from the sag
developed during pregnancy. A
contributing second reason is
that you probably haven’t done
your exercises regularly. A few
taken every day accomplish more
than spurts of elaborate exer
cising. You should do them as
faithfully as an actress would if
she were given the role of a lithe
young girl and had to do some
streamlining to look the part.
You’re playing a new role your
self, and here’s your chance to
prove that as a young mother
you are prettier and more at
tractive than you ever were.
Now it is a natural failing to
postpone exercises until you have
a nice, free space of time, which
rarely arrives. In the mornings
you must hurry- to tend the baby
and get your husband off to work.
In the evenings, you are just too
tired. So plan to make use of
spare minutes throughout the
day. For example, the usual plan
of time budgeters is for the
housewife to dash upstairs and
make a bed while the washing
machine runs. But why not do
some exercises on the spot in
stead? (You’d better keep an old
automobile robe handy to lie on.)
Here’s one of the classic post-
Starts Relief in 6 Seconds
.from All 6 usual* LU'
OR LIQUID
Caution Take only as directed
natal exercises which would fit
into this spot in your day. Lie
flat on your back with arms
stretched above your head, knees
bent enough for feet to be flat
on the floor. Bring the arms slow
ly forward until fingers touch
the knees. You may not make it
the first time but repeat a few
times daily until you do. Then
graduate to a more difficult ver
sion of this tummy flattener —
that is, lie straight with legs
stretched out instead of bent at
the knees. Now rise slowly to a
sitting position, and touch the
toes this time.
In the kitchen, while you wait
for water to heat, get down on
your knees, forehead resting 'on
the floor—put your arms under
it for comfort. Then draw your
abdomen in, pressing the small
of the back up to straighten the
spine. This exercise is known as
the knee-chest position and has
never been surplanted as the
most logical way, short of stand
ing on your head, of forcing
drooping organs to assume their
normal position.
But the very best exercise is to
walk correctly and to do this you
must think about it—not every
second, of course, but enough to

Forestry Workers
Titles Changed
This Week
Field employees and officials of
the Georgia Department of For
estry will have new titles begin
ning this week. By order of Di
rector J. M. Tinker, the use of
the designation “District,” as in
“District Forester” will be elim
inated. Hereafter all District
Foresters, District Wardens and
District Marketing Aides will be
known as State Foresters, State
Wardens and State Marketing
[Aides.
Mr. Tinker explained this move
is to make it clear in the public
mind that these men are on the
[staff of the State Department or
Forestry and are not connected
[with any federal forestry project.
I “The State of Georgia,” the Di-
I rector pointed out, “is responsi
ble for the administration of the
forest land within its borders—
also, the counselling of timber
owners. The public should be
‘made aware of this State service,
particularly in view of the plans
now being made in Washington
for federal control of timber
cutting. The State Department
of Forestry is opposed to any such
plans. We Georgians know best
how to handle our own forects.”
