J. B. Garvin Dies
Os Heart Attack

Judson Burnett Garvin, 47, of
the Garvin Electric Company,
and superintendent of electrical
construction at the plant of Pas
co Packing Company, died sud
denly Friday night at 10 o’clock
of a heart attack at his home.
News of his death was received
with shocking sadness by mem
bers of his family and his host
of friends. He had made his
home here for the past four
years and previously had lived
in Summerville, Ga. He was born
in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Oct.
28, 1889, the son of the late H.
J. Garvin and Mrs. Edith Dun
ham Garvin.

Chattanooga, Tenn.
Funeral services were held
Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at
the chapel in the funeral home
of Coleman & Ferguson Com
pany, with the Rev. E. C. Tyner,
pastor of First Baptist Church,
officiating. Mrs. Harold Aughen
baugh served as pianist and ac
companist for Don S. Aughen
baugh, soloist, who sang "The
Rosary” and “One Sweet Solemn
Thought.” Interment was in the
Dade City Cemetery. Active pall
bearers were Edward A. Storch,
Vernon L. Robinson, J. E. Hol
land, I. S. Reed, H. H. Renfroe,
Orville Kellett. George Crane and

Q. Is a veteran’s widow eligible
for a VA guaranteed loan to pay
a debt on real estate or to build
a house?—Mrs. John F. Hamlin,

A. No. There is. no loan guar
antee provision for widows.
Q. I am a veteran of World
War II and am drawing 10 per
cent disability compensation. I
have a wife and 4 children de
pendent on me. Are they entitled
to compensation?—Hoyt W. Clay
ton, Route 1, Muscadine, Ala.
A. No. However, in the event
of a veteran’s death from a ser
vice-connected disability, his
widow and children do receive
compensation from the VA.
Q. Does the deadline for ap
proval for on-the-job training
apply to veterans who want to
train on the farm? Rodell

A. Yes.
Q. I am 65, the widow of a
Spanish War veteran. Am I en-
titled to an increase in my pen

A. The minimum monthly rate
of pension lor Spanish War wid
ows was increased last August
from S3O to S4O. The increase be
came effective Sept. 1.
Q. Can I change my course of
on-the-job training? Do certain
jobs have limited time for train-'

A. You can change your train-'
ing course if you get prior VA
approval. Regular on-the-job
training is limited to a maxi
mum of two years unless it is an
approved apprenticeship course.
Q. Are veteran students requir
ed to make higher grades than
others to pass their subjects ?-

A. No. The veteran" is on the
same basis as other students. j

said this week.
Brooks explained that applica
tion blanks for consumers’ use
of sugar are also available at
the branch office for the con
venience of the public, though
