LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
OLD AND NEW YEAR’S
REFLECTIONS
Editor, The News:
The old year, with all its op
portunities, shadows and sun
shine, is passing; shall very soon
be a reality. Those for whom it
holds the greatest blessings are
those who shall bravely meet its
responsibilities and duties in re
lation to God and their fellow
travelers to eternity’s shore.
Paul admonishes Christians as
follows' "See that ye walk cir
cumspectly, not as fools, but as
wise, redeeming the time, for the
days are evil” (Eph 5:15. 16).
Multitudes trifle away their
time. They tamper with their
golden hours, like the man who
stood on the deck of a vessel on
the briny deep tossing a dia
mond upward, against warnings,
and catching it as it descended,
until it eluded his hand and
dropped into the ocean’s depth
and was lost beyond recovery,
leaving the loser to bemoan his
folly. The apostle’s words mean
that those who are thus careless
with their precious moments
lack wisdom; yea, that their
song of life is that of a foolish
actor. It is sad that so many so
depreciate the value of time as
never to rise above the realm of
folly.
“The days are evil.” Few, com
paratively, have any care for
their souls, nor for the moral

and spiritual elevation of others.
The activities of vast multitudes
tend to drag humanity down to
a state of moral corruption, and
many of the religious forces are
averse to the Bible-revealed way
of truth. Therefore, the servants
of Christ have a gigantic strug
gle against moral pollution and
religious error. But if they re
deem the time for their souls
and for Christ and His kingdom
the struggle must be made. Un
ceasing vigilance in the name of
Christ is the price.
“Redeeming the Time” is from
the Greek expression, exagora
zomenoi ton kaixon, the literal
meaning of which is "buying up
for yourselves the season.” Pay
ing the price above mentioned
means a glorious triumph over
the darksome forces of satanic
power and a crown bestowed by
the King of righteousness. Are
not the laurels of victory worth
the price to be paid to secure
the season for ourselves, in push
ing forward the claims of "the
King eternal, immortal and in
visible," whose kingdom can
"never be shaken,” and whose
faithful subjects are secure for
evermore.
How wise and how blest to se
cure every year, every month,
every day, every hour for the
(glorification of the name of
Christ! The last of each will |
come bye and bye, and “O to be
robed and ready!”

i ’ FLAVIL HALL,
s ‘WHO IS GOD AND WHY
1 CANNOT I SEE HIM?’
f Editor, The News:
The question is often asked by
! children as well as by adults,
“Who is God and why cannot I
1 see Him? Has He no form like
> other things by which we could
. recognize Him?” Now if I can
i make it clear where to look for
• Him I shall have met the pur
•\ pose of this article.
A search for Him is truly nec-
• essary if we find Him, even
t though He be as near as your
1 breath.
How to search to find Him is
■ necessary. We must first feel a
. real need to acauaint ourselves
L with Him before a search begins.
. Search the scriptures, for in
. them “ye think ye have life but
these are they which testify of
me.” A Bible is found in nearly
every home, though seldom read.
. Should you ask when have you
read its pages, it would surprise
you how few ever open and
search for the information
: therein.
Now God is a spirit and He is
i everywhere and knows every
thing. In this Book of books is i
j found instructions how to ap
| proach and how to commune
with this Great Spirit.
A need to know this God-spirit
is first necessary when man
finds he is a lost creature and
must find a hand that will meet
his every need to lead him out
of darkness and despair, then
turn to this Book of books and
learn the first great lesson.
That is to repent of one’s sins
and believe on the name of the
Christ of God and follow the
guiding spirit which will assure
you of acceptance and a wel
come into this kingdom of peace
of mind and comfort of spirit
that otherwise the world can
j never know only through the
same course of action. And then
. one can begin to know that God
loves and blots out all memory
■ of one’s past life and fills the
soul with a thrill and hope that
i can never be experienced other
wise. This is li'e to know Him
j and feel the thrill that comes
j through this acquaintance.
