DOUGLAS-THOMAS
Mrs. R. C. Douglas of Meeks,
Ga., announces the engagement
of her daughter, Martha Berry,
to Irwin G. Thomas, of Sum
merville.
Miss Douglas received her de
gree in home economics from
Berry College, where she was an
outstanding student. She is now
a member of the Lyerly High
School faculty, where she serves
as head of the home economics
department.
Mr. Thomas is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. S. Thomas of Sum
merville. He served 49 months
in the United States Army as a
staff sergeant of which thirty
four months were in the Pacific
theater. He is employed by the
Montgomery Knitting Mill as
production manager. Mr. Thom
as is an active member of the
Summerville Lions Club, the
Trion Golf Club and the Veter
ans of Foreign Wars.
The wedding will be held the
latter part of March in Lyerly.

announced by her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Roland L. Greene, of
Trion.
The wedding will be solem
nized in the early spring.
The bride-elect is the sister of
Ava Nelle Greene and R. L.
Greene, Jr. She is the grand
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C.
Harris, of Rome, Ga., and the
late Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Greene,
of Trion.
Miss Greene is a graduate of
Trion High School and attended
West Georgia College. She is a
member of the First Baptist
Church.
The prospective bridegroom is
a graduate of Summerville High
School. He served in the armed
forces in the European Theater
of War.

son of Greenville, S. C., and her

Ga., joined the barracks detach
ment here recently for guard
duty. He previously was sta
tioned at the Marine Corps Base,
San Diego, Calif.
Pvt. Buttram, formerly an em
ployee of the Trion Textile Corp
oration, enlisted in the marine
corps last November.

SCOGGINS-HOLCOMB
The wedding of Miss Dorothea
Holcomb, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Z. E. Holcomb, of Gore, Ga.,
and Harold W. Scoggins, son of
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Scoggins, of
Subligna, Ga., took place at the
Subligna Baptist Church Satur
day evening, Feb. 8 at 8 o’clock.
The pastor, the Rev. J. W. Bevis,
of Rome, officiated.
Mrs. Mary Earle Lansdell,
pianist and Mr. Paul K. Snead,
soloist, provided the music which
consisted of the following num
bers: “I Love You Truly” and Oh
Promise Me.”
The bride, given in marriage
by her brother, Eugene Holcomb,
was attired in a powder blue en
semble with black accessories.
She carried an army bouquet of
white carnations tied with blue
ribbon.
L. C. Scoggins, Jr., brother of
the groom, served as best man.
The bride’s attendants were Miss
Margaret Scoggins, maid of hon
or; Misses Ina Plunkett and
Frances Packer, bridesmaids. All
three were attired in correspond-
I ing shades of blue with black ac
cessories. The maid of honor
and bridesmaids’ bouquets were
of white carnations tied with
blue ribbons. Ushers were Bill
Self, of the University of Geor
gia, and Don Scoggins, of Sub
ligna. These two lighted the
candles immediately before the
ceremony while Mrs. Lansdell
played “In the Gloaming.”
! The bride entered to the
! strains of Mendelssohn’s Wed
ding March.
The church was decorated
with ferns, laurel and white
gladioli banked against a large
screen before the altar.
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Scoggins en
tertained with a reception at
their home in Subligna immedi
ately after the wedding. Miss
Rebecca Manis, a classmate of
the groom, presided at the punch
bowl. Assisting in serving were
Mrs. J. W. Bevis, of Rome; Mrs.
Lansdell, Mrs. W. H. Rambo and
Mrs. Lee White.
The bride is a sister of Eugene
and Elaine Holcomb. She grad
uated from Gore High School
and was employed by the Sum
merville Manufacturing Com
pany. The bridegroom is the
brother of Misses Margaret and
Frances Scoggins and L. C. Scog
gins, Jr., of Subligna. He was
graduated from Subligna High
