Louisiana Vets in
Georgia Told to
"Sit Tight, Wait"
Louisiana veterans living in
Georgia are advised to “sit tight
and wait” for developments con
cerning the newly-enacted Lou
isiana State Veterans Bonus.
This announcement was made
: yesterday by C. Arthur Cheat
ham, Director of the Georgia
State Department of Veterans’
Affairs.
Mr. Cheatham made the fol-
I lowing statement concerning the
Louisiana bonus’ “The Louisiana
Department of Veterans’ Affairs
and the office of Louisiana’s
Governor, Earl K. Long, have ad
vised us that they are being
flooded with inquiries concern
ing the bonus. The director of
the Louisiana Department of
Veterans’ Affairs. Joseph L. Gol
san, has advised veteran to ‘sit
tight’ until a method is set up to
pay the SSO to $2.50 cash bonus
provided by the bonus. The
bonus amendment authorized the
governor to designate some of
ficer of Louisiana to handle the
bonus applications and the ac
tual payment of the bonus. On
November 12, Governor Long
named the Louisiana Department
of Veterans' Affairs.”
“Veterans are advised not to
write to this office or to Louisi
ana concerning the bonus,”
Cheatham said. “We have worked
out an agreement with the Lou
isiana Department of Veterans’
Affairs whereby they will let us
know each development towards
the final payment of the bonus,”
the veterans chief said, and add
ed, “and you may be sure that as
soon as Louisiana lets us know
anything, we will immediately
publish such information in all
Georgia newspapers.”
“It will be some time before
applications will be printed,”
Cheatham said, “and in the
meantime all Louisiana veterans
living in Georgia are urged not
to write to anyone but to ‘sit
tight’ and watch their local
newspapers for the time and
place to file for their bonus.”
