THE DIRTY DEVIL IN A MAN’S
HIDE
I-John-2-15-“LOVE NOT THE
WORLD, NEITHER the things
that are in the world. If any
man love the world the love of
the Father is not in him.”
So you can’t be two in one
with God. You must be for God
or not for God. What of a person
who reads the funnies instead
of the Bible, who goes to the
movies instead of the church,
who drinks beer instead of
water, who raises the devil in
stead of peace, who steals in
stead of giving, who kills in
stead of curing, who gambles in
stead of working, who lies in
stead of telling the truth, who
uses every old filthy habit in
stead of being clean, and then
raises up on his due claws and
says he is as good as the rest of
them and will get to Heaven.
To you cow-hided devil, you are
a liar and the father of it. The
gentleman in a sinner is to con
fess that he is a sinner. For it
is not a disgrace to be a sinner
for we were all once a sinner.
But it is not right to be a sinner
and try to make people think we
are as good as the old sainted
mothers that live the standard
for God. A Christian payes his
honest debts and tells the truth
and doesn’t try to hide at every
street corner and he doesn’t care
for people watching him. He goes
to church on Sunday night in
stead of sitting in the moving
picture show Deside some other
man’s wife. He is not all the time
boasting about what he is. He
proves it by his daily walks. Oh’
you dirty devil that sinned from
the beginning. Jesus spake of
some which come to you in
sheep’s clothing but inwardly
they are raving wolves. Who is
the devil? A mean old spirit that
stirs people to angry without a
cause. If Jesus cast seven devils
out of one woman, what can he
do for you? Am I writing to the
devil, if so I hope he reads the
letter and gets in a herd of hogs
instead of men for hogs won’t
get drunk and cut and shoot.
You cow hided devil. Please don’t
write me back.

Fire Protection News
By George Bishop,
County Ranger
We had more fires last week
than have been set in quite some
time.
On Saturday the 15th we had
one west of Pennville that got
into the woods from where Mr.
E. L. Bryson of Route 2, Sum
merville was burning around his
store. The fire burned five acres
on Mr. Bryson, Mr. J. W. Crow
ford and Trion Company before
it was brought under control.
Over 1,000 acres could have
burned if this fire had not been
controlled.
We also fought three grass
fires the same day. One was near
Trion Airport, one south of Sum
merville and another on Rich
Hill.
The next day, Sunday we had
one on Miss Fay and Leone
Busbin’s land southeast of Price’s
bridge near Kincaid Mt. This one
burned four acres and could
have burned over 500. This fire
seemed to have been deliberately
set, the penalty for which under
Georgia law is a maximum of
two years in the penitentiary.
On January 19th a fire was
spotted on Mr. O. D. Maddux’s
land north west of Trion, which
started near where he had been
cutting wood. Three acres burn
ed before the fire was extin
guished. Only eight acres could
have burned.
Mr. E. H. Terry, State Investi
gator was on hand to investigate
this fire while it was burning
and questioned some eight wit
nesses.
He also investigated five old
cases while in the county. Three
persons guilty of careless burn
ing have either paid or promised
to pay costs and he indicated
that one case will be presented
to the next Grand Jury.

POOR DIET CAUSES
'HIDDEN' HUNGER,
SAY NUTRITIONISTS
Are you suffering from “hid
den hunger?”
That “something you et” can
make you sick, all right; but the
something you don’t eat may
make you sicker, according to
experts at state health depart
ment Nutrition Institutes held
recently at Valdosta, Macon and
Atlanta.
“Our stomach warns us when
it is empty, reminding us to eat
something,” explained Dr. Wal
ter Wilkins, nutrition chief of
the Florida state board of health.
“However, we aren’t aware of
hidden hunger until symptoms
such as overweight, underweight,
rough bumpy skin, bad gums,
pale skin, and poor posture ap
pear.”
Lack of vitamins and minerals
in the food we at is one cause
of “hidden hunger,” Dr. Wilkins
explained. Too many refined
foods, poor preparation, and
poor selection, rather than lack
of money or shortage of food is
responsible for malnutrition in
this country, he stated.
Some don’ts for housewives
from the nutritionists are:
DON’T overcook vegetables;
DON’T hold vegetables too long
before serving; DON’T use a
large amount of cooking water;
DON’T store fresh, leafy vegeta
bles in a warm place; DON’T
discard beet and turnip tops and
green leaves on cauliflower.
Appearing on the program with
Dr. Wilkins were Dr. Roy E. But
ler, U. S. Public Health Service,
New Orleans; Dr. Richard O.
Cannon, Vanderbilt University,
Nashville; Dr. Malcolm J. Ford,
U. S. P. H. S., Jacksonville; and
Dr. Guy V. Rice, director of the
Maternal and Child Health divis
ion of the Georgia Department of
Public Health.
