HOSPITAL BOND ISSUE EXPLAINED BY ALDRED The Chamber of Commerce this week continued it’s drive to have a “yes” vote on the hospi tal bonds on May 28 when Chat tooga Countians will go to the polls to state whether or not they wish to have the county contribute one third of the funds toward the building of a 25 or 30 bed hospital. Should the issue pass, the county will sell SIIO,OOO In nonds. “Approximately $90,000 of this SIIO,OOO will be used for the erection of a 25 to 30-bed hospi tal,” Fred Aldred, President of the Chamber said this week. “The construction will be start ed in the near future. Approx imately $20,000 of this money is to be put into a sinking fund to be used as a deficit if one should occur.” Mr. Aldred said that a 25-bed hospital has b a en approved by the State Hospital authorities of Georgia and the state will match the $90,000 that the county will put into the project if the bond issue passes. “Now,” he said, “after Chat tooga County has put up $90,000. This amount will build a beauti ful, modern and properly equip ped hospital.” Mr. Aldred stated that the County Board of Commissioners has agreed to allow this hospi tal to be built on the beautiful wooded plot of land next to the ! County Home. I "Mr. Fred Thomas said that Ihe would beautify the corner j across the road from this plot,” Mr. Aldred said. “Now, as to the cost and taxes to be paid to build this hospital. You will be assessed P/2 mills on ! the regular taxable rate of your 1 property which is one third of I the actual value,” Mr. Aldred stated. “In other words, if you have property worth $3,000 the taxable value will be SI,OOO and your taxes at P/2 mills to help erect this beautiful and modern hospital would be $1.50 per year, which is a very low and small tax for such a great and needed service.” "All in all, the people of Chat , tooga County cannot fail to vote for a beautiful, modern and : built hospital to be built as quickly as the architect and builders are ready after it has I been approved by you, for the very low sum of P/2 mills on the taxable value of your property. “We cannot afford not to vote ■ for this bond issue because it • will be a long, long time before ■ the county authorities, the state authorities and the federal gov ernment authorities will agree ■to participate all at the same time in a project that is so necessary and needed in this county. “Five to nine good business men will be appointed by the Chattooga County Commission ers as a Hospital Authority to run this hospital. The authority will operate on a self-perpetuat ing basis, whereby one or two members will be repalced each year. This as you know will take the running of this hospital out of anybody’s hands other than those who have the welfare of the people of Chattooga Coun ty at heart.” REGIONAL LIBRARY TO MEET TONIGHT The semi-annual meeting of the Regional Library Board will be held at LaFayette Library at 7:30 o’clock this evening.
