Mrs. Paul Weems, Society I
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Jackson, Jr.,
were called to Greenville, Ala.,
Wednesday on account of the
death of Mrs. Jackson’s mother,
Mrs. J. W. Dees. Mrs. Dees was
ill only a few hours having suf
fered a stroke earlier in the day.
Mrs. Dees had made many
friends in Summerville while
visiting here and they were
deeply shocked and grieved to
hear of her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Rice Morgan at
tended homecoming at Concord
Sunday.
Henry Salmon left Tuesday for
Dallas, Texas, where he will re
ceive delivery of a new trans
port.
Mr. and Mrs. Grady Salmon
and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Salmon .
were called to Atlanta Wednes- |

their uncle, Hoyt Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. David T. Espy in a
ceremony performed Saturday
evening at the Manse. The Rev.
Harry R. Foster officiated at the
ceremony.
The bride wore a toast suit

GARDEN CLUB HOLDS
MEETING IN TRION
The Chattooga County Gard
en Club held its monthly meet
ing at the home of Dr. and Mrs.
H. C. Hardin, in Trion, Thursday
afternoon with Mrs. Eugene
Rackley and Mrs. J. B. Wooddard
as joint hostesses. Mrs. O. G.
Moorehead, the club’s president
i presided.
A short business session fea
j tured a discussion of a Garden
; Center—a central location of the
Club’s literature and other prop
erty that would be accessable to
all members of the Club.
Mrs. J. L. McGinnis, program
chairman for the month, pre
sented Miss Beulah Shropshire
who spoke briefly on the pro-;
posed Recreation Park being
sponsored by the Business and ;
; Professional Women’s Club and
how the Garden Club could join
this sponsorship.
Miss Shropshire pointed out
that the Garden Club like all
the other Civic Clubs of Sum
merville needed 4 home for
their meetings and that through
the development of the Park on
Reservoir Hill, first as a recrea
tion area for all the citizens of.
Summerville, that later through
the joint efforts of all Clubs, a
Civic Center could be erected to
the mutual benefit of Summer
ville’s clubs.
Mrs. William Gist in a special
plea urged all members of the
Garden Club to use their every
influence in getting a favorable
vote for the County Hospital i
Bond election to be held Satur
day, May 28.
Following the program the
meeting was adjourned and a
social hour was enjoyed at which
Mrs. Rackley and Mrs. Woodard
served a salad course. A tour of
the Hardin home, which is wide-
I ly known for its artistic arrange
ment and many rare antique
I pieces, was made by the Garden
Club members.
