Fire Protection News
By George Bishop,
County Ranger
There was quite a difference
in the number of acres of woods
burned over this month of May
and in May so last year.
Last month 8 fires were re
ported and fought by the Coun
ty Unit that burned 49.5 acres.
Last year in the same month we
fought 16 fires that burned 329.5
acres. We had less dry days
this year, but increased coopera
tion and more careful burning
had much to do with cutting
down the number of acres burn
ed.
Four of the fires last month
were caused by careless burning
of fields and ditch banks, three
, were deliberately se,t and one
j was caused by hunters. Tht
| largest fire was on Dr. Selman’s
land near Sprite, when 20 acres
burned on the 16th.
