For Farm Picnic
The County Farm Bureau pic
nic held Thursday at the fair
grounds was better attended
than any ever held in this coun
ty, with well over 1,000 farmers
and their families attending.
Machinery demonstrations
were held during the morning
and early afternoon and J. B.
Butler. County Agent, reports
that more machinery was used
in the demonstration than had
ever been used before.
Dean Paul Chapman, of the
University of Georgia, H. L.
Wingate, State President of the
Farm Bureau, and Judge H. E.
Nichols, of the Rome Circuit,
Superior Court, were among
those addressing the group dur
ing the afternoon.
The modern machinery type
of farming was discussed by
Dean Chapman, who also point
ed out that the trend in the
south is away from cotton to
livestock.
He emphasized that farmers
could gain much by working to
gether and by having such get
togethers as the picnic, where
they could exchange ideas.
Legislation concerning farm
ers was the main theme of the
brief talk of Mr. Wingate, who
discussed both the national and
state legislation.
A barbecue was held follow
ing the addresses.
Leiters to the Editor
Mr. Editor:
We see some of the helpful
suggestions in the agricultural
columns of papers and farm
journals, and wonder why the
Federal Government nor the
State Stations have not put forth
a greater effort to exterminate
the bean beetle.
In the maatter of the boll
weevil the conditions are varied
and extensive, but it does not
seem so difficult in the matter
of the bean beetle.
A concerted action on the
part of individuals when the
pest first appeared would have
eradicated the beetle long ago.
Compulsory dippings eradicated
the cow tick and if everybody
would poison the bugs in their
garden with the other fellow in
view it would not place such a
hardship on a neighbor. I saw
a whole field of fine crowder
peas destroyed because a few
people with surrounding gar
dens abandoned their beans to
the beetles. If our freedom would
take into consideration the
other fellow it would help our
selves m production and satis
faction.

Mrs. Rowan says: “For ten
years I suffered from awful
spells of gassy stomach. I
couldn’t sleep at night and felt
weak, nervous and rundown. My
appetite was so poor that I lost
weight until I weighed only 90
pounds, was unable to do my

bottles of Scalf’s and feel like
new—l can even chop and pick
cotton, and now I weigh 114
pounds.”
Mr. Rowan writes: “For five
years I suffered bad spells of
indigestion. All foods and even
water hurt my stomach. I ate
so little I fell off to 131 pounds.
Scalf’s has helped me so much
I now eat anything I want, even
cdcumber pickles, kraut and
beans that used to give me so
much distress, and now I
weigh 150 pounds. My wife and
