TRION WINS TWO, LOSES ONE
SUMMERVILLE SPLITS LAFAYETTE SERIES;
By T. Enunett Nunn
The County Baseball forces
did all right for the week with a
total of 3 wins against 3 losses
as Trion slammed out a 13 to 4
win over Trenton, of the Look
out Valley League, on Thurs
day night in Trion.
They came again for the home
folks on Sunday with a thrill
packed bottom 9th rally to whip
Atco 3 to 2 on Buck Rich’s pinch
triple scoring Roy Williams to
tie it up then scored on a wild
pitch to take half the Atco
series.
Saturday in a wooly battle
that was tied 6 times, Atco came
up with one of the unusuals in
baseball to whack a 10-7 lead
and score 4 runs on 2 walks, 1
hit, 1 error, and 3 hit batters
for a 11-10 final.
In the Summerville-LaFayette
series and also a Sunday thrill
er that beat the home team,
“Clebo” Jackson hit rough going
in the second as wildness cos*
three of the oppositions runs,
with one added by LaFayette in
the 9th making it a 4 and 3
count.
“Rabbit” Jackson, scattering
five hits at LaFayette Saturday,
was backed by a ten hit barrage
that amply supplied the win
margin. Jack Bryant was tops
in the Summerville willow pa
rade with 3 good knocks, 2 for

Dacus and Alexander Hit Hard
In the Sunday loss, Summer
ville still had its bright spots
as Joe Dacus and Ralph Alex
ander collected 4 of Summer
ville’s 6 hits. With these two
getting the range, young Joe
clouted one over the wall and
another for 2 bases as backstop
ping Alexander banged a triple
hits in all with Waco Pepper’s
9th inning double pushing Stew
art across for the LaFayette No.
4 run. But for the wild Summer
ville 2nd the score could have
been three and one.
Kelley and No. 6
Now with four, five and six
hitters to his credit Gene Kelley
knocked off Atco for No. 6 in
games won while facing two loss
es and the last two wins on
successive week-ends. The four
hitter was a 4 to 1 loss to Shan
non.
Last week it was Lindale who
fell victim and this week Kelley
gets sweet revenge for Satur

however was charged with the
loss as he left the bases full

Trion had rallied three times
to tie ♦the Goodyears and had
finally gone ahead ten to seven
on a 5 hit 4 run rally in the
Bth. Rich bounced his 3rd hit
off that game in the inning fol
lowing another single and a
home run.
In Sundays game Rich was in- 1
serted to hit for Kelley after
Williams singled and Heaton
grounded out with the result
being a sizzling line drive just
over short that bounded high
over Bob Shelley’s head to the
left center fence at 360 feet.
Williams scored for the tying
run after Atco led 2-1 for 8 full,
innings then the boards of
strategy huddled.
It was a close place for both
teams with Hardeman for Trion
instructed to bunt the second
pitch dn a squeeze play and the
Goodyears in tight to cut it off.
However Esmond Culberson up
set both strategies by firing a
high very hard inside pitch that
Jim Bryant couldn’t touch with
his mitt and Ace Drummond
.running for Rich waltzed on in
for a Trion pleasing finish.
Trion had eleven hits to 6 but
couldn’t bunch them earlier for
a decisive lead.
