DACUS ON 3-B ALL-STAR TEAM
Pinholster Team Waxing Hot;
Football Honors Come In
BY T. EMMETT NUNN
As the Indians roll relentlessly
and gain momentum, it’s a tor
rid pace that now has seen the
Pinholster boys rack up five in
a row. Menlo, the latest vicitm,
on Tuesday night was swamped
60 to 24 as the Red and. White
subs got lots of game time.
Over a ten-day period that
has been the 1949-50 opening,
Summerville has tramped all in
its way and with one exception
it was not too tough going.
Armuchee put up a tussle for
the Indians’ opener but Sewell

won a 26-25 thriller, for the

subdued 47-38; and Lawrence

Football Honors
With the Journal announce- [
ment last Sunday of the B Group
' All-Star teams. Joe Faye Dacus
| was nominated for a halfback
। slot on the mythical Group 3 [
' team.
For the Indian threat, this is
not an unexpected honor for the l
giant-killers in one event and’
very close to major upsetters in [
two others, each time Dacus
passing, punting, running and
pass catching was a big factor.
In area pickings as observed
and credited by the Chattanooga
Times. Dacus was on the No. 3
'team that was a selection from
119 schools within a 50-mile ra-
Idius of Tennessee, Alabama and
Georgia.
Sprayberry All-State C
Group Tackle
Heading a Trion list of five
picked for football honors, Tom-1
|my Sprayberry was cited for his
excellent play by being awarded
an All-State berth.
Joe Young, William D. "Bleb”
Sams, Jimmy Peace, John Rob
ert Lee and Sprayberry were all
awarded positions on the Region
4C team and if the custom is
the same, each boy will receive
a Football Oscar from the Geor
gia High School Association.
The same will hold true for
Dacus in 3B and also the boys
will be awarded gold footballs
।in the Times’ pickings.
Lee for Trion was first string
। fullback on the Times' pickings;
.Jimmy Peace was a second team
| guard with Sprayberry at a
। tackle on the third team, and
Joe Faye in the backfield. Sanis
and Young both were honorable
mention on the Times TAG
pickings.
These awards all speak highly
for our vicinity boys and are rec
ommendations to all for the
prowess they posses.

this side of Pleasant Grove, was
pushed in a 36-25 contest.
In the only win for the young
ladies, LaFayette was dropped
by a 16-point margin in a point
to better days but the period
was short lived.
Lawrenceville, in Summerville
Saturday night, eked out a 36-35
and on this Tuesday just past,
Menlo’s girls snatched their sev
ienth win in 8 starts, 33 to 22.
Back on the boys winning side,
not enough credit can be handed
,to such boys as Bobby Nix, the j
I little sawed off senior who is a
passer deluxe, with an eye to
putting that ball where the point
getters can do the most damage.
Opponents cannot forget either
that Bobby is a fine shot from
way back and that’s one factor
that will spread a defense'where
Cash and Bush can work in
close for open pushups.
Billy Flannagan and Biily ■
Morehead are two of the taller 1
boys that can add up when the'
others are temporarily stranded.;
; Morehead, a southpaw passer
can cross the opposition on feed
| ing and with Flannagan they are '
aggresive defenders.
Also in the out a lot, Joe Da
cus still can move despite that [
bad football foot and Norris
Gamble is absolutely the best
young prospect in the county’s j
schools.
Holidays Interupt Season
After Tuesday’s game this
week at Menlo, the Indians in
vade Model on Friday night and ■
that’s all until Jan. 3, when.
Rome High’s double A class Hill
toppers invade Summerville to
start the 1950 portion.
Trion Loses Two
Again the Bulldogs and Blues,
of Trion High, appear in a hap
less condition as the not too
strong Blue Devils invaded Trion
last Friday and carried off win
ners on both sides
Model’s girls, with a forward
punch but not much defense,
throwed in their 70th point as
the final whistle sounded being
contented on a 68 to 44 score.
The Model boys, only a skelton
of the potential 1948 Blue Devils,
1 led off with an Bto 2 first quar
| ter count that rocked and sock
ed onto a 28-22 finish
It’s going to be a long hard
wood season for the Trion teams,
the same as in 1948 when the
boys only won one game and
the girls only faired slightly bet
ter.
Tuesday night of this week
Trion was to visit Rome High
then close for holidays on Fri
day in Menlo.
