TELOGA SCHOOL NEWS
During the past three weeks
we have been very busy at Teloga
trying to do as much studying as
possible. We have been through
our books two or three times this
year and we hope to go through
them at least once more before
the end of the school year. We
feel this has been a good year
at Teloga because we have built
a little lunchroom which feeds
around 40 students per day and
is rated a grade “A” eating es
tablishment. We have also intro
duced many new things in the
school such as softball, jumprope
and basketball. We have cleaned

“We Have Biscuits
Every Morning!”
Says Mrs. Douglat Byrd, Univ* City
M My family likes biscuits for breakfast, so 1 bake
some every morning. It's no task at all with an
electric range."
Mrs. Byrd is head of the homemaking depart
ment at the Campbell High School in nearby Fair
bum. She is actively interested in civic work. But
she manages so well that she finds plenty of time
for her family.
The only servants in her new home are electrical
appliances. They help to take the work out of
housework, and their wages are so small. No
wonder she thinks electricity is the biggest b i-gam
in her family budget!

With the school year drawing i

their work due to cotton picking

must double up in order to pass
their work. Our outstanding stu

Marnie Smith is leading the

Korean Income Tax
Exemption Renewed
The Revenue Act of 1951 con
tinues in force with last year’s
provisions allowing certain ex
emptions from federal gross in
come tax on the pay of service
men in the Korean combat zone,
William K. Barrett Director of
the State Department of Veter
ans Service, said today.
Excluded from income tax is
all the active service pay of en-
I sted personnel, and compensa
tion up to S2OO a month for com
missioned officers. The exemp
tion applies to compensation re
ceived for active service in the
armed forces of the United
States for any month during any
part of which a member thereof
served in a combat zone after
June 24, 1950, or was hospitalized
as a result of wounds, disease ot
injury incurred while so serving
in the zone.
The exemption applies only
while there are combat activities
in such zone.
Barrett invited interested per
sons to come by the nearest
branch office of the State De
partment of Veterans Service for
further information and assist
ance. The nearest branch office
is located at LaFayette, Ga. and
the manager of the office is
John H. Griffith.
the Walker County Library. They
have been very nice to us.
We have received many sup
plies from our state in the lunch
room and we want to thank
everyone responsible for our re
ceiving same. Every few days you
can see Charles Wright and a
couple of Summerville High
School students bringing us new
supplies free. We have received
turkeys, hams, tomatoes, beans,
grapefruit, dry milk, eggs, and
many other useful things. Our
community should be proud of
the people that have helped us
so much. We have had some peo
ple to encourage us not to feed
the grapefruit because their
children do not like them. We
feel we should serve the grape
fruit because it is good to help
keep down colds and is given to
us free of charge. We must learn
to eat new things and through
our lunchroom program we have
the chance. It is a wonderful
program. We should really be
proud of it.
