Selman-McManus
Wedding in Athens
The First Presbyterian Church
in Athens formed the setting
Friday evening, February 20, for
the marriage of Miss Patricia
McManus, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Edwin McManus, of
Athens, to William P. Selman,
Jr., son of Mrs. William Penn
Selman and the late Mr. Selman,
of Summerville. Dr. Harmon B.
Ramsey officiated.
The altar of the church was
banked with smilax, palms and
ferns, interspersed with white
gladioli and candelabra which
were lighted by Jack Turner and
Jimmie Jamerson, both of
Athens.
The nuptial music was pre
sented by Mr. M. R. Smith, or
ganist, and Mr. Robert Molson,
soloist. Mr. Molson sang “Be
cause,” “All Through the Years,”
and “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Marcus Alonzo Cook, HI, of
Atlanta, served as best man, and
the usher-groomsmen included
Robert E. Lyons and William
Hair, of Summerville; Charles
Thornton, Jr., of Athens; Wilkins
Kirby, of Newnan; and Jim
Hickey and Bowden Dobbins,
both of Atlanta.
Miss Jerry Alexander, cousin
of the bride, was maid of honor,
and the bridesmaids were Miss
Mary Ellen Selman, of Summer
ville, sister of the groom; also
Miss Anita Sams and Miss Nancy
Cooper, of Athens; Miss Nell
Warren, Miss Jan Martin and
Miss Diane Brantley, all of At
lanta. The junior bridesmaids
were Miss Marsha McManus, sis
ter of the bride, and Miss Susan
Selman, sister of the groom.
They were all gowned alike In
beautiful red taffeta gowns
made with portrait neckline, fit
ted bodice, and draped skirt with
nylon net ruffled front and the
peplum train back of taffeta.
They carried bouquets of white
stephanotis.
The lovely bride was given in
marriage by her father, Charles
Edwin McManus, and her hand
some gown was made of white
satin, tulle, and imported lace.
The fitted bodice was of lace
with a tulle yoke and was but
toned down the back with self
covered buttons. The full skirt
was tulle over satin with side
lace panels and ended in a
three-yard train. Her finger tip
veil of illusion caught to a Juliet
cap of imported lace. She car
ried a bouquet of stephanotis
centered with a white orchia.
She wore a strand of pearls, a
gift of the groom.
The mother of the bridte wore
an ice blue tissue taffeta gown
, w’ith a fitted metallic lace bodice
. embroidered with sequins. A pink
orchid completed her costume.
Mrs. Selman, mother of the
groom, chose a gown of navy
tulle over champagne taffeta
with a long torso bodice em
broidered with multicolored and
irridescent sequins. A purple
orchid completed her costume.
Reception
Following the ceremony. Mr.
and Mrs. McManus entertained
; at a reception at the Country
Club. The bride’s cake centered
> on a handsome table cloth of
Italian cut work and was lifted
from the table by ruffles of satin
’ and mallne. Five-branch can
! delabras were used on either side
. of the cake, which was three
tiered and topped by two orchids

Mrs. Thompson Bride

Mrs. Mattie Thompson and
Carl W. Kringsberg were mar
ried on Sunday, February 22, at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sadd
Dalton in Trion. Rev . Darty
Stowe, pastor of Menlo Baptist
Church officiated.
A program of wedding music
was played by Mrs. Dalton, who
wore a light orchid dress with a
crosage of yellow roses.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her son, Vernon Thomp
son, of Greenwood, S. C.
Ort Knutson, of Memphis,
Tenn., nephew of the groom,
served as best man.
For her wedding the bride
chose a navy blue wood suit
with a navy and pink hat. Her
accessories were white. She wore
a white orchid corsage.
The ceremony was performed
before a bank of greenery flank
ed by large baskets of white
gladioli. A few relatives and close
friends were present for the
ceremony.
A reception followed. A large I
white three tiered cake deco
rated with delicate pink rosebuds
centered the table overlaid with
an imported cutwork linen cloth,
and on either side were white
candles. Mrs. Gertrude Mallicoat
presided at the punch bowl, Mrs.
Annie Chambers, Mrs. Lessie
Floyd and Mrs. E. L. Gray as
sisted in serving. Miss Isa Stan
cill kept the bride’s book. The
couple left for a wedding trip to
Florida, after which they will be
and lily of the valley in a bridal
bouquet.
Coffee was served by Mesdames
H. G. Cooper and Charles Thorn

Later in the evening, Mr. and
Mrs. Selman left for a wedding
trip to Nassau. For travel, the
bride wore a navy match-box
suit with navy and white acces
sories. A white orchid from the
bride’s bouquet completed her
costume. They will reside in
Summerville.

with Revs. Howard Crowe, G. H.
