BAINBRIDGE, Ga., — (GPS)
Georgia’s score under the Hill-
Burton hospital construction pro
gram since January, 1955, now
stands at 73 projects completed,
placed under construction or ap
proved at a total cost of $42,-
896,358.66.
This was revealed by Gov.
Marvin Griffin in a speech be
fore the Second District Medical
Association’s recent meeting held
in his home town of Brainbridge.
The projects, financed with
state, federal and local funs, in
clude:
1. Seventeen new hospitals
costing $17,230,140.64 and addi
tions and alterations to existing
hospitals costing $18,548.820 89.
In all. this adds a total of 1,962
beds to Georgia’s hospital sys
tem.
2. Thirteen health centers
completed. 14 under construction
and six additions authorized for
existing health centers. This
brings the total to 71 since the
Hill-Burton program was in
itiated in Georgia in 1947.
3. In addition to the health
centers, a nursing home at Moul
trie, rehabilitation centers at
Savannah and Warm Springs,
diagnositic and treatment
centers at Emory University in
Atlanta and at Albany and a
chronic disease hospital at Mari
etta have been placed under con
struction since January, 1955.
