The U. S. S. Reina Mercedes,
former Spanish cruiser, known
as the Navy’s “fastest” ship be
cause she was tied fast to a
Naval Academy dock for 45 years,
is headed for the scrap heap. The
Navy ruled she had outlived her
usefulness and cost too much to
keep repaired. It had been used
for training and for barracks for
naval plebes.
An eight per cent increase this
season has been experienced by
the peanut, according to the Ag
riculture Department, which re
ports that such an increase has
taken place in the use of pea
nuts for making candy, salted
peanuts, peanut butter and mis
cellaneous products.
