James W. Mathis
Final Riles Held
James W. Mathis, 81, a resi
dent of Route 2, Armuchee, died
suddenly at his home Tuesday
morning.
He is survived by two daugh
ters, Mrs. Carl F. Alexander,
Laurel, Maryland, and Mrs. Mag
gie Owings, Armuchee. Route 2;
three sons. Emory, Eugene and
Hershell Mathis, all of Ar
muchee. Six grandchildren and
one great-granddaughter sur
vive in addition to several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be con
ducted at the Sand Mountain
Chapel Baptist Church today at
4:00. Rev. Frank Lewis, Rev. W.
R Veatch and Rev. J. A. Smith
will officiate.
Burial will be in the church
yard.

Aptitude Exams
A special summer Scholastic
Aptitude Test will be adminis
| tered by the Rome Center of the
University of Georgia, Marion J.
1 Rice, Director announced today.
The test will be given on Fri
day. June 5, at 6:00 p.m. in Room
24 of the old high school, 415
Third Avenue, in Rome.
Administration of the test will
permit prospective college stu
dents, who missed the regular
May test, to qualify for summer
quarter admission.
Advance application is not
1 necessary to take the test.
| Students should report to the
Rome Center on June 5 at 6:00
| p.m. At that time each will be
■ given a special application form
and will pay in cash the exam- !
