The members of the Lyerly
School faculty were honored
with a mid-afternoon tea Fri
day by several women of the
Parent-Teacher Association.
Refreshments of party punch,
sandwiches, nuts, mints and
cookies were served from a table
beautifully decorated in a color
scheme of pastel pinks and
greens. Lighted pink candles
were on each end of the table
which was covered with a hand
made, mint tablecloth. The
table was centered with a bou
quet of pink roses.
The crystal punch bowl was
entwined with giant magnolia
leaves serving as a base for clus
ters of pink rose buds. Presiding
at the punch bowl were Mrs.
J. L. Wilson, Mrs. Harold Bishop
and Mrs. Harry Farrow.
The guests were received by
their former president, Mrs.
Johnny Bryant, and their future
president, Mrs. W. H. Smith, Jr.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Morrison
were in Dry Valley Monday.

The many friends of Mrs. Wal
ter Hughes will be sorry to hear
of her illness. She was admitted
to Chattooga County Hospital
Saturday afternoon. We hope
she will soon be well and can
•come home.
Mrs. G. C. Willingham of Gore
was an overnight guest of Mrs.
Mattie Young Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Itson of
Armuchee visited her mother,
Mrs. G. C. Willingham, in Gore
Sunday.
We regret to report that Mrs.
Gertrude Doster of near Gore
was injured in a fall last week.
She was admitted to Floyd Coun
ty Hospital and was visited in
the hospital Sunday by Sidney
Gordon of Orlando, Florida, and
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gordon of
Gore.
Sidney Gordon stopped over
night Saturday with Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Gordon on his way
to Orlando from South Bend, In
diana.
George Doster, Jr., was a Sun
day guest of Gary Gordon.
Mrs. Frank Dawson and Janice
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Har
old Gordon, Gary, Mary and
Mark, all of Gore, Sunday.

FOR 7TH DISTRICT
The United States Civil Serv
ice Commission will conduct a
Congressional examination for
designation to the Naval, Mer
chant Marine and Air Force
Academies on Monday, July 13th,
1959, for the Seventh District of
Georgia. Candidates tempoiarily
absent from the District may be
examined elsewhere, at such ex
amination points as may be de
sired.
Congressman Erwin Mitchell
points out that the quota for the
Seventh District at the Military
Academy at West Point, New
York, is filled and there will be
no vacancies for the class which
will enter in 1960.
Examinations are open only to
candidates designated by mem
bers of Congress. Therefore, any
young man between the ages of
17 and 22 who wish to take the
examination should notify Con
gressman Erwin Mitchell, Suite
348, House Office Building,
Washington 25, D. C., before
June Bth, 1959, so that he can
make arrangements for all in
terested young men to take the
test. An applicant should include
his full name, month, day and
year of birth as well as a small
photograph of himself when
writing Mitchell. The school of
his choice should also be indi
cated.

John Hull and the Joymakers of
Gadsden, Alabama, to take part
in the Homecoming services
his appointments to the Acad
emies from an eligible list com
piled by the Civil Service Com
mission from the results of this
examination. Nominees to the
service schools must also pass
mental examinations (similar to
the Civil Service examination)
given by the Academy to which
they are named, as well as phy
sical examinations, before they
are admitted to the Academy.
Speed was blamed for more

deaths and injuries in the U.S.
during 1958.
