Poolos. Given by the Instrumentalist magazine, a non-profit
medium for music directors and students, the award goes to out
standing musical students. It consists of a desk emblem, lapel
pin and inscription on a permanent plaque on display at the
school. The recipient expects to attend Jacksonville State Col
lege to study music anti become a director.

WILSON TO GET
AUBURN DEGREE
A total of 588 students will re
ceive degrees at the Alabama
Polytechnic Institute on June
3. Os the degrees, 540 will be
bachelors, 42 masters, one hon
orary doctorate and five doc
torates.
Among the graduates will be
Charles H. Wilson, Summerville,
who will receive the degree of
bachelor of textile management.
Commencement speaker for
the 5 p.m. graduation program
in Cliff Hare Stadium will be Dr.
Robert C. Anderson, director of
the Southern Regional Educa
tion Board in Atlanta.
McClure Family
Slates Reunion
The annual reunion of the
McClure family will be held
Sunday, June 7, in the Municipal
Park at LaFayette. All descend
ants and relatives of Charles and
Millie Keown McClure are in
vited to attend. A picnic lunch
will be spread at the noon hour.
Special tributes will be paid to
Mrs. R. N. (Crissie) Trimble and
Mrs. W. L. (Evelyn) McClure,
both of whom have died since
the last reunion.

The 26th annual commence
ment of West Georgia College
will be held on Friday, June 5,
at 10:30 a.m. in the college au
ditorium, according to Dr. Irvine
S. Ingram, President.
Martha Housch of Summer
ville is a candidate for the
Bachelor of Science degree in
elementary education.
Dr. Harmon W. Caldwell,
Chancellor of the University
System of Georgia, will be the
guest speaker.
This marks the second year
West Georgia College has grant
ed four-year degrees. There are
37 candidates for the Bachelor
of Science degree in elementary
education.

Hold Bible Schoo!
Vacation Bible School will be
gin at the First Baptist Church
on June 1 to continue through
June 5.
School will be held each morn
ing between 9 and 12 o’clock. It is
for nursery ages through age 16.
Preparation Day will be Fri
day, May 29, begining at 10
o’clock with a parade.

Mary Ann is the 8-month-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clif
ford S. Thrasher, Jr., of Atlanta.
Mrs. Thrasher is the former Miss
Margaret Meadows, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Olney Meadows
who with their son, Olney, Jr.,
spent the week-end with the
Thrashers and attended the
Baptismal Service. Sunday also
was the 3rd birthday of Mary
Ann’s brother, Sloan 111.

HD Club Meets
The West Summerville Home
Demonstration Club met last
Thursday at the home of Mrs. C.
W. Kringsberg with Mrs. Clyde
Harlow as co-hostess.
Mrs. Wright Wheeler, presi
dent, was in charge of the meet
ing. Miss Elizabeth Jackson gave
the devotional and the group
sang several songs, using new
song books recently purchased
by the club. The minutes were
read by the secretary, Mrs. Ed
mond Baker, and the financial
report was given by Mrs. Reuben
Garrett, treasurer.
Mrs. Agnes Morgan and Mrs.
Clyde Harlow gave interesting
talks on their trip to Atlanta in
April. Following the business
session. Miss Omie Wiley demon
strated the use of jar and con
tainers in freezing foods.
The group discussed with Mrs.
Clyde Harlow, the planting of
old fashioned roses in front of
shrubbery.
The hostesses served a deli
cious salad, sandwiches, potato
chips and coffee to 14 members
and three visitors.

In Berry Honor
Steven Smith of Mount Berry,
grandson of Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Smith of Summerville, has been
honored at Mount Berry School
for Boys.
Young Smith received aca
demic achievement medals for
sophomore English and biology.
He also was cited for work in
mathematics.

the engagement of their daughter, Marcella June, to Cecil Morris
Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Reynolds of Route 1, Sum
merville. Miss White is a 1958 graduate of Summerville High
School. Mr. Reynolds attended Lyerly High School and is em
ployed with the Georgia Rug Mill. The wedding is planned
for July.
