Some Veterans
Must Increase
Study Courses
Some Korea veterans, in night
school or in part-time training
under the Korean GI Bill, may
have to start accelerating their
courses if they want to finish up
by the termination date of their
GI training benefits, the Vet
erans Administration said today.
Under the law, a veteran’s GI
termination date is eight years
from the date of his discharge.
But in no event can he take GI
training beyond January 31. 1959.
Veterans may not be paid GI
educational allowances after
their termination dates have
passed, Mr. J. M. Slaton, Jr.,
Manager, Veterans Administra
tion Regional Office, Atlanta,
Georgia, said.
Mr. Slaton pointed out that a
Floyd Van and family, Mr. and
Mrs. R. L. Green Jr. and family
attended a wedding in Trion
Sunday. The bride is the former
Miss Marlyne Langston.

THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 1959
veteran discharged in 1952 faces
a termination date next year, in
1960. For a veteran discharged in
1953, his termination date would
come sometime in 1961.
Mr. Slaton suggested that vet
erans taking Korean GI Bill
training check their own indivi
dual termination dates. If the
date is hard upon them, he said,
they may want to consider ac
celerating their courses by tak
ing additional subjects or going
to summer school.
Veterans working days and go
ing to school at night part-time
may be particularly hard-put to
finish their GI training before
their deadline, since their train
ing may extend over several
years. They in particular should
give thought to speeding up their
courses in order to finish in time,
Mr. Slaton advised.
Miss Lucile Higginbotham,
health specialist, Agricultural
Extension Service, declares boys
and girls can usually avoid feel
ing nervous, tired, and irritable
before lunch time if they gat an
adequate breakfast.
