From
the heart of the atom:
Power for America
A LITTLE LESS than five years ago the amended
Atomic Energy Act was signed into law, per
mitting the nation’s electric utility companies to
participate in atomic power research.
These companies have attacked with vigor the
problem of producing low-cost electricity from
nuclear fuel.
Electric companies throughout the nation are
actively engaged in various phases of nuclear
study, research, development and construction.
Sixty companies are sharing in the planning and
building of 15 nuclear power plants, representing
an investment of approximately $5lO million by
these companies.
The Georgia Power Company is cooperating in
the construction of the Enrico Fermi Atomic
Power Plant near Monroe, Michigan. Our engi
neers are studying nuclear reactor engineering
here at home.
The full promise of electricity from the atom
is being developed for you.
