In nuptials last Friday afternoon at the home of her parents,
Miss Joyce Oliver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion H. Oliver,
became the bride of Hoyt Carl Ramey, son of Mrs. Daisy Ramey
of Summerville. The marriage was performed by Rev. Merlin
Brown. The bride attended high school in Trion and the groom
is a 1955 graduate of Summerville High School. They are residing
in LaFayette.

TRION TEACHER IN
ATHENS FOR STUDY
Miss Martha Sue Scott of
Trion is one of sixty high school
teachers of French and Spanish
who were accepted by the Uni
versity of Georgia for its sum
mer language institute.
The teachers include 41 Geor
gians and 19 persons from Ala
bama, Tennessee, Florida and
South Carolina.
The six-week course began
June 12 and will end July 22. It
is one of 12 in the nation spon
sored by the U .S. Department of
Education under the National
Defense Education Act. Directed
by Doctor Howard S. Johnson,
who heads the University's for
eign language department, the
school is the only such course
being offered this summer in the
Southeast.
Legion Auxiliary
Miss Mae Earl Strange said
today that the American Legion
Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold a
meeting Friday night, June 19,
at 7:30 o'clock.
All members are urged to be
present for the meeting to be
held at the Auxiliary Home on
West Washington Street.

Four Hundred Guests Invited To Affair;
Nuptials Will Be Spoken Here .July 18
Four hundred friends were in
vited to a tea Wednesday after
noon at the home of Mrs. Mar
shall Lowry in honor of Miss
Charlotte McGinnis who will be
come the bride of Lawrence Ed
ward Dollar of Birmingham on
July 18 at the Presbyterian
Church.
The bridal motif of green and
white was carried out with white
gardenias, magnolias and white
gladioli artistically arranged
throughout the rooms.
Mrs. John Bankson greeted
the guests at the door and they
were shown to the dining room
by Mrs. Paul Weems and Mrs. A.
F. McCurdy. In the receiving
line were Mrs. Lowry, Mrs. J. L.
McGinnis (grandmother of the
’bride-elect), Mrs. H. L. McGinnis
i and Miss McGinnis.
The dining table was overlaid
with a beautiful handmade
white lace cloth over white satin.
Nosegays of valley lilies and
gardenias were fastened to silver
candelabra on cither end of the
table.

To Vinson Carver
In Quiet Nuptials
At a quiet ceremony on Satur
day, June 13, at the Pennville
Church of Christ, Nell Worsham
and Vinson Carver were united
in marriage. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
A. Worsham of Summerville, and
Mr. Carver is the son of Mrs.
Leonard Westbrooks of Trion
and Harvey Carver of LaFayette.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father. She was at
tired in a ballerina length net
and lace over taffeta gown. Her
veil was attached to a tiara of
orange blossoms. She carried a
white Bible topped with a white
orchid.
She was attended by Mrs. Pa
tricia W. Cox as her matron of
honor, and Miss Mary Charles
Williams as her maid of honor.
Also attending Mrs. Carver were
Mrs. Linda Owens and Miss
Cindy Nation.
The brother of the groom,
Mike Carver, served as ring
bearer and the niece of the
bride, Luann Cox, served as
flower girl.
Ushers were Ken Arden and
Jimmy Styles, both of Trion.
Tommy Scoggins served Mr.
Carver as his best man.
After a short wedding trip the
couple will be at home in Sum
merville.

Os Wedding Carrying Local Interest
Miss Anne Harbin McWhorter
and Robert Wylly Butler were
married Saturday evening at the
First Presbyterian Church in
Chattanooga, Tenn. Dr. James L.
Fowle performed the ceremony,
and a program of wedding music
was presented by Carl D. Scheibe,
organist, and James E. Mahoney,
soloist.
Mr. and Mrs. John Madison
McWhorter are the parents of
the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed
ward Nelson Butler of Live Oak,
Fla., are the parents of the
groom.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father and wore a
gown of white hand clipped
chantilly lace and nylon tulle
over satin. The moulded basque
bodice featured a scalloped sa
brina neckline sprinkled with ir
idescents and seed pearls. Long
sleeves pointed over the wrist.
The bouffant skirt was designed
in alternate pointed rows of
scalloped lace and nylon tulle
extending in a chapel length
train. The bride’s headdress was
a finger tip veil of imported silk
illusion attached to a half crown
of lace encrusted in seed pearls.
Her bouquet was lilies of the val
ley and stephanotis centered
with white orchids.
Miss Rosemary McWhorter,
sister of the bride, served as the
maid of honor. Bridesmaids were
Mrs. E. Baxter Sneed, Mrs.
Alan W. Derthick, Miss Mary
Meacham, all of Chattanooga,
Miss Peggy Jo Wells of Monti
cello, Fla., Miss Susan Harbin of
Tampa, Fla., cousin of the bride,
and Mrs. Don V. Richardson of

bridegroom.
I The attendants wore dresses of
| romance blue silk organza. The
fitted bodice had a scoop neck
line and brief sleeves. A crushed
cummerbund of self material ac
cented the midriff. The bouffant
skirts were ballerina length.
Their hats were nylon petal
rosettes sprinkled with seed
pearls and matching halo veil.
They wore matching satin shoes
and carried bouquets of yellow
painted daisies. Randy Stappen
beck was the ring bearer.
Mr. Butler was his son’s best

The bridegroom’s mother wore
slate blue lace over dusty rose
taffeta with beads sprinkled on
the bodice. She wore matching
hat and shoes and wore a white
orchid corsage.
A reception following the cere
mony was held at the church.

After a wedding trip the cou
ple will reside in Decatur, Ga.,
while the groom finishes his
senior year at Emory University
School of Dentistry.
