of Florence. Ala., visited Mr. and

and Mrs. Sarah Hughes Sunday.

at Riegel Community Hospital
after suffering a heart attack.

Miss Joyce Himes returned
home the first of last week from
a two weeks’ vacation in Florida. I

Miss Barbara Parker was Sun
day dinner guest of Mrs. Buddy
Brown and Joyce, and Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Brown and chil
dren, of Rossville, who were
visiting the Browns. Later they
attended the homecoming at
Four Mile Baptist Church.

little son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Flemmings who is recuperating
from measles.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie
Owens, 76, Armuchee Route 1. who died
in a Rome hospital at 12:25 p.m. Thurs
day, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at
the Sand Mountain Chapel. The Rev.
Frank Lewis and the Rev W. F. Conn
officiated. Interment was in the church
yard cemetery.

Elmer M. Mitchell
Dies Unexpectedly
Elmer Manti Mitchell, 43. of
Route 1, Summerville. Berry ton
community, died unexpectedly at
1 p.m. Saturday.
He had been employed by the
General Electric Company of
Rome for the past seven years.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Elmer Manti Mitchell;
mother, Mrs. Ada Mitchell; one
daughter, Miss Theresa Mitchell:
one son. Jerry Mitchell, all of
Berry ton; six sisters, Mrs. Cicero
Pledger, Mrs. Austin Hurley,
Mrs. Andrew McArthur, all of
Summerville; Mrs. Henry Becker
and Mrs. Wallace Espy, both of
Atlanta, and Mrs. Fred Mosley,
Lyerly; five brothers, Dewey
Mitchell, Menlo; Donald, J. W..
Hoyt and Jim Mitchell, of Sum
merville.
Funeral services were con
ducted at the Berryton Church
of God at 1 p.m. Monday with
the Rev. W. F. Swift and the Rev.
Lamar Rosser officiating. Burial
was in the Summerville Ceme
tery.
Active pallbearers were the

J. C. Hurley.

Father of Trion
Man Dies Thursday
Samuel Joseph Orr, 67, resi
dent of Savannah, died in a
Chattanooga hospital at 3:25
p.m. Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Adele H. Orr, Savannah; one
son, Samuel H. Orr, Trion; two
grandsons and one granddaugh
ter, of Trion.
Funeral services were con
ducted at the graveside of the
Boneventure Cemetery in Sa
vannah at 10 a.m. Monday.

charge.

CHURCH BRIEFS
Homecoming will be observed
at the Spring Creek Baptis'
Church Sunday. The pastor, Rev.
Kenneth Putnam, invites every
one to attend. A revival meeting
will be in progress there next
week.
Perennial Springs Baptist
Church, Rev. James Bailey, pas
tor, will observe homecoming
this Sunday. The Bill Cobb Trio,
of Anniston, will be among spe
cial singers. A revival meeting
will begin the same day. The
Rev. Glenn Boatner, pastor of
the Midway Baptist Church, will
preach. Everyone is invited to
attend these services.
A revival is in progress at the
North Summerville Baptist
Church, where the Rev. C. E.
Reece is pastor. The public has
a cordial invitation to attend.
The meetings will run through
this week.
Next Sunday night at the
Mountain View Baptist Church
will be designated as Young Peo
ple’s night. The Rev. Robert
Brown will preach. The service
will begin at 7:30. The Rev. Ger- ;
aid Campbell will be in charge i
of the young people of the
Training Union.
The annual homecoming of
the Mountain View Baptist 1
Church will be held the fourth i
Sunday in this month. Good
singers will be present and din
ner on the ground
