The former Mrs. Dorothy Lit
tle, Mrs. Henderson is a native
|Of Habersham County. She re
j ceived a bachelor of science in
i education at Georgia State Col
lege for Women, with majors in
; biology, sociology and education
I with a minor in psychology. She
I is a Presbyterian, a member of
Delta Kappa Gamma, a honor
ary society for women teachers,
| and she and her husband reside
I on Kirby Street.
Mrs. Henderson has taught I
seventh grades throughout most I
of her career. The seventh grade
at Summerville is divided into
sections and Mrs. Henderson I
teaches four sections English
and one section spelling and
reading.
Mrs. Henderson says that dur
ing her years of experience as a
teacher she has become con
vinced that, most children can
learn if the subject is presented
to them on their level.
“All students can get some
thing out of school unless they
are definitely physically or men
tally handicapped,” she pointed
out.
A key to getting a child to
learn is sparking his interest, be
lieves the teacher.
“If we can stimulate his de
sire to learn, then teaching is
no problem," adds Mrs. Hender
son.
The teacher has some tips for
parents who want to help their :
children learn: Don’t let them
spend too much time watching
television; provide at home a
place and time for them to have
uninterrupted study; surround
them with good books; give
them an opportunity for music
appreciation.
Although there are still plenty
of problems in the schools, Mrs.
Henderson believes that disci
pline, absenteeism and health
are all less of a problem today
than they were 21 years ago
: when she began her career.
Farmers can realize greater
