HILES BRADLEY, 72,
DIES AT LYERLY
Hiles Bradley, 72. retired
farmer and lifetime resident of
Lyerly and Chattooga County,
died at his home in Lyerly at
1:40 a.m. Saturday.
He was the son of the late
Joseph and Josephine Mathis
Bradley.
Surviving are: two sisters, Mrs.
D. A. Borders and Miss Wessie
Lee Bradley, both of Lyerly;
one niece, Miss Lucile Vaughn,
Lyerly; nephews, Paul Vaughn
of Midland. Tex.; Lee Borders of
Atlanta; J. H. and Bernard B.
Borders, both of Rome. Several
great nieces and nephews also
survive.
Funeral services were con
ducted from the Lyerly Method
ist Church Sunday at 4 p.m. with
the Rev. C. H. Wheelis and Rev.
T. A. Wallace officiating. Burial
was in Lyerly Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Mon
roe Thomas, L. B. Whisenant, W.
H. Smith. Jr., Eugene Gravely,
Grover Jackson and James Ful
ler. Honorary pallbearers were:
John Jones, John King, Craw
ford Bailey, W. H. Smith, Sr.,

Clifford L. Haggard
Rises Held Tuesday
Clifford Lee Haggard. 61, a
resident of Route 2, Summer
ville, Pennville community, died
Saturday at 9 p.m. He was born
in Hamilton County, Tenn.,
moving to Georgia at an early
age. He was formerly employed
by Riegel Textile Corporation,
Trion, retiring in 1959 due to
bad health.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Nannie Mae Haggard: two
daughters, Mrs. Camilla Wood
all of Route 2, Summerville,
Miss Jimmie Ruth Haggard of
Route 2, Summerville; two
sons, Doyee Haggard of Trion
and Wayne Haggard of Route
2, Summerville; four brothers,
Jim Haggard of Sand Rock, Ala..
Cleve Haggard of Rome, Clar
ence Haggard of Redding, Calif.,
Gordon Haggard of Woodtown,
N. J.; three sisters, Mrs. Wood
row Abernathy of Summerville,
Mrs. Hubert Brady and Miss
Vivian Haggard, both of Penns
ville, N. J. Six grandchildren
and a number of nieces and
nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday at 2 p.m’. at tlie Berry
ton Church of God, of which
he was a member, with the Rev
erends W. H. Swift and W. A.
Mann officiating with burial in
the Greenhills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers were Charles
White, A. D. Inman, Frank Mc-
Graw, Cliff McGraw, Ellis
Powell and Arnold Hughes.
Erwin Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
DICK PALMER, 49,
DIES IN ATLANTA;
FUNERAL MONDAY
Dick Palmer, 49. a well-known
former resident of Chattooga
County, passed away in an At
lanta hospital Saturday at 7:45
p.m. He and his family moved
from here, making their home in
Chamblee, Ga., six years ago. He
was an employee of Davison’s in
Atlanta and a member of the
South Summerville Baptist
Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Bonnie Palmer; two daughters,
Mrs. Peggy Champion of At-

The Rev. Mr. Huston was in
strumental in making plans for
i the replacement of the First
Baptist Church building which
burned Nov. 25, 1956. A $365,000
building, including a sanctuary
and Sunday School rooms, was
erected through his efforts. In
] addition, a $22,000 pastorium
was built last year.
The minister conducted a
daily radio program on WGTA
and was well known throughout
the county. His funeral was at
i tended by an overflow crowd
1 estimated at some 900 persons.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Roberta Thompson Huston;
three sons, R. E. Huston. Fitzy
Huston and Ben Huston, all of
Trion; two daughters, Mrs.
Oscar Bryant of Athens, Ga.
Mrs. Deward Bailey of Charles
ton, S. C.; three granddaughters,
two grandsons: one brother,
Robert A. Huston of Blackwell,
Okla.: five sisters, Mrs. H. H.
Newcomb. Mrs. Omer Caulk and
Mrs. Walter Bohannon, all of
Campbellsville, Ky„ Mrs. Rob
ert Gowin of Bradstown, Ky.,
and Mrs. Steve Rice of Lebanon,

Funeral services were held
Sunday at the Trion First Bap
tist Church at 2 o’clock with
Reverends Darty Stowe and Ray
Roberts officiating. Burial was
in the Green Hills Memory Gar
den.
