Refugees the many problems
they face and how Christians
are trying to help—was the pro
gram theme Monday night when i
the Summerville Methodist Wes
leyan Service Guild met at the
home of Mrs. Hubert Johnson,
100 Allen Street.
The program was presented by
Mrs. Herman Buffington, who
was assisted by Mrs. Lee League,
Mrs. W C. Abernathy and Mrs.
James Crouch.
Mrs. Abernathy also gave the
devotional for the evening.
Mrs. Hill Hammond, presi
dent, presided. The minutes were
read by Mrs. League, secretary,
and the treasurer’s report was
given by Mrs. Crouch.
Mrs. H. L. Wolford, of Falls
Church, Va., was a guest at the
session.
Mrs. Johnson and her co
hostess, Mrs. Paul Crouch, served
a salad and cold drinks during 1
the refreshment period.

side Church of Christ, Peter
Mattis, local evangelist, has an
nounced.

will be the speaker. Congrega
tional singing will be led by
John Mills of Lindale. Services
will be at 8 p m.
Chieftain Beauty Court and
Shorter College where she was a
member of the Polyminian So
ciety. Miss Kidd was the winner
of the 1960 Miss North Georgia
Beauty contest. She presently
belongs to the Beta Sigma Phi
sorority and the Girls’ Cotillion
j Club of Rome. She is a member
of the Second Avenue Baptist
Church and is now employed at

Mr Carroll attended prepara
tory school in Lynchburg. Va.
and graduated from North Ful
ton High School in Atlanta. He
attended Emory University and
was affiliated with Alpha Tau
Omego fraternity. He is pres
ently at Georgia State College
where he Is a member of the
Inter-Collegiate Golf Team. He
belongs to the Coosa Country
Club in Rome Mr Carroll is a

Miss Shirley Adams Wed
To Mr. Tucker Saturday
Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Adams, of LaFayette, announce the
marriage of their daughter, Shirley, to Robert V. Tucker,
of Summerville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Josh Tucker.
The wedding was an event of
June 24 at Welcome Hill Baptist
Church, with the Rev. A. A.
Tanner performing the double
ring ceremony.
Bouquets of white gladioli and
wrought iron candelabra hold
ing burning tapers stood at each
side of an arch covered with ivy.
A kneeling bench was used in
the center of the arch.
Beautiful music was presented
by Mrs. Lenora Buice. organist,
and Miss Sue Lynn Glass, vo- j
calist, who sang "Because ” "Till'
the End of Time,” and ended the |
ceremony with "The Lord's ।
Prayer.”
Usher-groomsmen for the oc
casion were Fon Bishop and
Larry Carroll. The groom's best !
man was Don Reynolds.
Little Miss Debbie Maxwell
served as ringbearer. Her dress i
was of yellow polished cotton'
with an overskirt of white or- j
gandy and lace. She wore a wrist
corsage of white feathered car
nations with yellow streamers. '
The bride chose her sister,
i Mrs. Martha Ann Canada of ।
I LaFayette. as her matron of I
honor. Mrs. Canada's dress vas
lof a full overskirt of yellow
[chiffon and organdy over a
! polished cotton sheath. Her
[ bouquet was of yellow mums and [
I white pompoms.
The bride was given in mar
; riage by her brother, Lester
| Adams of Birmingham, Ala. Her
1 gown was of Chantilly lace and
organza over satin, with a lull
length skirt which fell in a
| chapel tram. The dress featured
a scooped neckline and long
1 sleeves forming a point over the
! hands. The fingertip veil was of
imported illusion and was held
by a coronet of seeded pearls
and sequins.
A white orchid with feathered
carnation and streamers was |
carried on a white prayer book
by the bride.

ceremony a reception was laid
at the Trion Club House. The
bridal table featured cande
labra, bouquets of gladiohs. four
tiered wedding cake, punch, nuts
and mints.

will be the year-long theme of
the Summerville Music Study
Club, it was announced at the
June 14 meeting held at Riegel
dale Tavern.
Mrs. J. R. Burgess discussed
the year’s programs.
Mrs. T. W. Elder, the new
president, accepted the gavel
from Mrs. W. P. Martin, retiring
president.
Mrs. Mary Ann Neal presented
the budget for the coming year.
Hostesses were Mrs. Duke Espy,
Mrs. Don Trent and Mrs. Mar
tin.

Open House Sunday

Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Johnston,
Summerville Route 4, were
honored at open house Sunday
on the occasion of their golden
wedding anniversary.
The fete, given by their chil
dren, Mrs. A. P. Neal Jr. and
Tom Lewis Johnston, was held
at the home of Mrs. Neal, 108
Allen Street, Summerville.
Guests were greeted by Miss
Carol Ballenger, Mrs. Johnston’s
niece. Those serving were Miss
Jenny Ballenger, another niece
of Mrs. Johnston, and Mrs. W. A.
Hix. Mrs. T. W. Manis of Crystal
Springs kept the guest book.
Arrangements of white and
gold flowers were used as deco
rations for the occasion.
Mrs. Johnston is the former
Miss Zula Mae Ballenger and
she and Mr. Johnston were wed
at the home of her parents in
Gore 50 years ago.
Some 56 guests called Sunday
afternoon to congratulate the
couple.
BIG WEEK-END SET
AT WINNEPESAUKAH
Three days of free shows, two
giant fireworks displays and a
kiddies day thrown in to boot,
will highlight the Fourth of July
week-end at Lake Winnepesau
kah.
Free shows will begin Sunday
at 2, 5 and 9 p.m. with Porter
(Satisfied Mind) Wagoner and
his band in charge of the pro
gram. Alex and Elmer will be
featured in their television roles
Monday in the outdoor theater.
On the Fourth, Carl Butler and
his troupe will invade the
amusement park. The shows be
gin at the same time daily. The
park will be open at 10 a.m. on
the 4th.
