The City of Summerville Gax Department announces a new
policy under which new gas customer* and existing custo
mers adding gas appliances will be reimbursed for installa
tion expenses according to the following schedule;

Scholarship Told; Test Set

Riegel Memorial Scholarship
Program is being announced of
ficially this week to all employ
ees of Riegel Textile Corporation,
and its subsidiaries, and to the
sons and daughters of active or
retired Riegel employees.
A Riegel scholarship is intend
ed to cover four years in any ac
credited college or university of
the winner’s choice, and provides
financial assistance of up to
! SI,OOO in any one academic year
: toward direct college expenses.
I The winner may select the course
, of study and the degree he wants
to pursue.
To be eligible, a scholarship
| applicant must be an employee
I of Riegel Textile Corporation, or
a subsidiary, with at least one
year’s continuous service at the
time application is made; or the
son or daughter of an active or
retired employee who has com
pleted at least one year’s service
at the time application is made.
Sons and daughters of employ
ees on authorized leaves of ab
sence are eligible also provided
the employee parent completed
one year of continuous service
, at the time the leave of absence
| began. All applicants are re-'
I quired to show at the time of
application that they are in the !
last year of high school or that I
they have successfully completed I
high school within two years
prior to the time of application.
Also, the sons and daughters of

James Robert Hurley, 55, a
, resident of the Perennial Springs
community, passed away Wed-
| nesday at 11:10 p.m. He was a
I life-long resident of Chattooga
I County and a member of the
Perennial Springs Baptist
Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
|Trixie Hurley; two sons, James
W. Hurley, Summerville, Wayne
Hurley of the U. S. Army sta-
I tioned in Germany; one daugh
ter, Mrs. Howard Brooks, Route
2, Summerville; four brothers,
Tolly Hurley, Summerville, John
of Lyerly, Austin and Wallace
Hurley, both of Route 2, Sum
merville; two sisters. Mrs. Hobart
Jennings and Mrs. Clayton How
ell, both of Summerville; two
grandchildren and a number of
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sat
urday at 2 o’clock from the Pe
rennial Springs Baptist Church
with the Reverend W. H. Dean,
Reverend G. W. Rosson and Rev
erend Oliver Pledger officiating
with interment in Greenhills
Memory Gardens.

nephews and honorary pallbear
ers were members of the Adult
Men’s Sunday School Class of
the Perennial Springs Baptist
Church.

Mrs. Minnie Estelle (Foster)
Holland, 93. resident of Holland
and lifetime resident of Chat
tooga County, died at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday in Floyd County Hos
pital. Mrs. Holland was the wife
of the late J. P. Holland, who
preceded her in death August 2,
1914.
She is survived by two daugh
ters, Miss Bertha Holland and
Miss Mary Holland; one son,
Housch Holland, all of Holland:
two sisters, Mrs. Della Moon and
Mrs. Daisy Worsham, both of
Summerville. A number of nieces
and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were con
ducted from the Chapel of the
J. D. Hill Funeral Home Monday
at 3 p.m. with Paul Simons and
James Arthur Jones, ministers,
’ officiating. Interment was in
' Lyerly Cemetery.
