SISTER, BROTHER CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS—Mar
tha Ann and Scott Copeland, children of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Copelajid, East Washington St., Summerville,
celebrated their birthdays one day apart. Martha Ann
was three years old on Nov. 15 and Scott was one on
Nov. 16. A party was held on Nov. 15 to mark the
I occasions.
The mother of the bride-elect
was the late Mrs. Myrtle Steph
enson Mitchell, formerly of
j Monticello. Miss Mitchell is the
granddaughter of Mrs. Minnie
Wheeler Stephenson, a native of
Summerville, and the late
Marshall Stephenson, Sr. The
paternal grandparents are the
late Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Mitchell,
Sr., of Atlanta.
Miss Mitchell attended Con
verse College, where she was a
member of the Conversationalist
newspaper staff and the Con
cept Literary Guild. She also at
tended Georgia State College
and is presently employed by the
National Medical Services, Inc.,
of Atlanta.
Mr. Drake, a graduate of
Charleston High School, is a
student at Georgia Tech, where
he is a senior in the School of
Electrical Engineering.
A spring wedding is planned.

The engagement of Miss Ann Smith Zorn to Thomas
Edwin Kling, son of Mr. and Mrs. George T. Kling, of Menlo,
is announced by Miss Zorn’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
O’Neal Zorn, of Waycross.
A December wedding is
planned.
Miss Zorn is the granddaugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Zorn, of
Sycamore, and the late Mr. and
Mrs. Edwin Smith, also of Syca
more. She was graduated from
Waycross High School where she
was active in school organiza
tions. She was editor of the
school annual and a senior su
perlative. Miss Zorn is presently
attending the University of
Georgia in Athens.
Mr. Kling is a graduate of
Summerville High School. He
will graduate in June from the
University of Georgia with a B.
S. degree in agronomy.

Recipe of
The Week
MRS. GUY PEPPERS
Mrs. Peppers, of near Lyerly,
is the mother of seven children
and she also has five grandchil
dren. She has been a housewife
during most of her adulthood,
having worked outside the home
only a year or two. She is active
in the Lyerly Methodist Church,
being a substitute teacher and a
member of the women’s circle.
ORANGE-DATE CAKE
1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
4 cups plain flour
4 eggs
1 lb. candy orange slices,
chopped
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup pecans chopped
1 teaspoon soda
•/a teaspoon salt
1 box dates, chopped
1 can cocoanut
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time. Dust
nuts, dates and orange slices
with one-half cup flour. Add
soda to buttermilk. Add milk to
flour last. Add candy, cocoanut,
nuts and dates. Bake 2Vi hours
at 250 degrees in tube pan.
ICING
2 cups powdered sugar
1 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon orange rind, grated
Mix ingredients and pour over
hot cake. Let cool.
Menu: Ham, pickled peaches,
mashed potatoes, green limas,
coffee, rolls, orange-date cake.
