Mrs. Ella MacFadden spent
the day Thursday in Coosa with
relatives.
Mrs. J. W. Hollis and Mrs. Paul
Cook, of Chattoogaville, spent
Saturday in Rome on business.
Those visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Jody Cook and family Sunday
were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bank
son, Mrs. Mary Mackey and chil
dren, of Leesburg; Mr. and Mrs.
Roy Cook, of Chattoogaville; Mrs.
Lena Bankson and Ted, of Men
lo, and Mrs. Bill Cook, Billy and
Tommy.
A Fashion Show was held at
the Chattooga County High
School last week. Among those
from Lyerly who participated
were Misses Barbara Copeland,
Sharon Priest, Linda Reynolds, [
Brenda Yarbrough and Glenda !
Gaylor. Miss Linda Baker pre
sented a talent number.
Mr. and Mrs. James Lewis and
children, of Berryton, were sup
per guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Cook and family Sunday night.
Miss Ellen Gaylor, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gaylor, of
Gaylesville, were elected Harvest
Queen of Gaylesville Elementary
School. Miss Gaylor is tho
granddaughter of Mrs. J. F.
Whisenant.
Mrs. Harold Bishop, W. N. Kim
bell and Margaret Jones visited
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Henderson and
family in Rome Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harbin Stephens,
Joyce and Ronnie were Sunday
afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs.
John Wyatt Rose.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Little, of
Rome, were recent guests of Mr.
and Mrs. J. S. Taylor and Mrs.
Annie Taylor and Holland.
Friends of Teddy Fuller are
glad to hear that he is improved
after having been ill at his home
for a week. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. James Fuller.
Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Carnenter
and son visited Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis Hanle Saturday.

and Mrs. Bill Cook and family.
Mrs. Will Jones spent the
week-end in Summerville with
her son, Mr. and Mrs. W. B.
Jones, and family. She stayed
with the Jones children while

Georgia Tech football game in
Atlanta Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Weyman High
and daughter, Elaine, of Gore,
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Jackson.
Vernon Tidmore was among
those from this area who at
tended the Class C Champion
ship Football games at Athens
Friday night.
The qualifying for office in the
January 4 election in Lyerly will
open Saturday, Dec. 23. This
also is the deadline for register
ing in the election.
The Lyerly PTA met at the
school Monday night, Dec. 4 with
Mrs. Johnny Copeland, presi
dent, presiding. A special pro
gram by the elementary choral
groups was presented.
Miss Marilyn Bryant was the
Tuesday night guest of Miss Jane
Stephenson, of Summerville.
Members of the Lyerly Home
Demonstration Club met with
other groups from over the coun
ty Thursday at the Extension De
partment to prepare handicrafts
and other articles to be sold at
the Home Demonstration Christ
mas Bazaar.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cook were
honored on their 42nd wedding
anniversary recently with a din
ner at their home. Those at
tending were Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Cook and boys, Mr. and Mrs. G.
C. Pickle and Debbie, Miss Judy
Kirby and Mr. an^ Mrs. Coo lz .
Gwen Williams spent Tuesday
night with Mr. and Mrs. Johnny
Bryant and Joni.
Mrs. Harry Farrow was indis
posed over the week-end.
BEARS FETED BY
PARENTS TUESDAY
The Bears, champions of the
Summerville Midget Football
League, and the cheerleaders
were honored by their parents
at a hot dog supper I uesday
evening at the Boy Scout hut.
A menu consisting of hot dogs
roasted over the open fire, po
tato chips, soft drinks and
toasted marshmallows was
served.
Mrs. Henry Duke, Mrs. Rex
Cassidy and Mrs. John Hchuis
were chaperones.
Bear Coach Dick Dickens was
presented a gift in appreciation
of the work he did for the team.
Twenty-five boys and girls
attended.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. An
derson Haygood, who were killed in an
automobile accident Thursday morning
north of Trion on the Hall’s Valley Road,
were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ric
eel Memorial Methodist Church. The ;
Rev. Shelton Adams and the Rev. L. S. ।
Baugh officiated. Interment was in West
Hill Cemetery.

1. who died in a local hospital at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Elsie Lee Ramey Chas
teen, 37, Summerville Route 1,
died in a local hospital at 1 p.m.
Wednesday.
She had been a life-long resi
dent of Chattooga County and
was employed at Summerville
Mfg. Co. She was a member of
the Wayside Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband,
Leo Chasteen; one son, Stanley
Chasteen, Summerville Route 1:
one daughter, Mrs. Shirley
Sparks, Summerville Route 2;
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ra
mey, Summerville; three broth
ers, Hoyt Ramey, Fort Bragg, N.
C.; Billy, Chicago, Ill.; Clifford.
Oglethorpe; four sisters, Mrs.
Yvonne Carr and Mrs. Kathleen
Pope, Summerville; Mrs. Frances
Patterson, Summerville Route 2,
and Mrs. Mary Ruth Woodard,
LaFayette. Four grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews
also survive.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced by Erwin Funeral
Home.
Trion PTA to
Have Yule
Theme Tues.
A Christmas program will be
presented when the Trion Par
ent-Teacher Association meets
at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the
school.
Christmas carols will be ren
dered by a representative group
from the high school and the de
votional will be led by Carlos
Zellner.
Mrs. Billy Joe Hayes, presi
dent, urges all parents to attend
and to take guests.
NEW CB CLUB SET
IN PENNVILLE;
TO MEET DEC. 17
A new Citizens’ Band Club to
be called “CB’ers Club,” has been
formed in Pennville.
This is an amateur radio out
fit and the next meeting will be
held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17,
at the C & P TV in Pennville.
All CB’ers are invited, Jake
Langston, secretary - treasurer,
announces.
Adding decomposed leaves and
other organic matter to the soil
changes the soil structure so
that it is better aerated and has
better water holding capacity,
according to Extension Horticul
turist Gerald Smith.
