The Minister
Speaks . . .
By REV. BILLY JONES, Pastor
Menlo Baptist Church
There has never been a time
since the creation of man that
I we need to have an assurance of
our salvation more than the
day in which we live. It seems
after having talked with many
, people about their vital experi
ence with Jesus that there are
many doubts in their minds:
। but Christ would have us to
know that we are Christians.
The Bible has much to say
about this matter ( Psalm
46:10) Be still, and know that I
am God : I will be exalted among
the heathen. I will be exalted in
the earth. (John 10:14> I am
j the good shepherd, and know
my sheep, and am known of
mine. (II Timothy 1:12) For the
I which cause I also suffer these
(things: nevertheless I am not
ashamed: for I know whom I
have believed, and am per
jsuaded that he is able to keep
j that which I have committed
unto him against that day. (I
John 5:13) These things have I
i written unto you that believe on ।
the name of the Son of God:
‘ that ye may know that ye have
eternal life, and that ye may
believe on the name of the Son
of God. In these passages of
scripture that were given by the
Holy Ghost we have the assur
ance that we need.
We as Baptists believe that
J when we are born we can not
|be unborn. We have been mis
understood in our Bible teach
: Ing by many who say that we
believe every person that says
; he is a Christian is a Christian,
J but it’s only those that do the
will of the Father. (Matt. 7:21)
We do not contend that every
person that has come to the
: altar convicted of sin is saved,
or born again. God tells us in
Matthew 7:21 that “Not every
lone that saith unto me, Lord.
Lord, shall enter into the king
dom of heaven; but. he that
doeth the will of my Father
which is in heaven." There is
not a one of these people that

FIRST “E” TAG—Jackie Pledger proudly attaches his
new tag to his “new” automobile. The Chattooga
High student, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Pledger, re
ceived the 1939 model car as a Christmas gift from his
parents and waited in line to get the first tag for that
category. Some 500 tags had been sold in the first seven
days of' the year, Tax Collector Emmett Clarkson said
this week. The office has some 8,000 to go out this
year. The tags are white on red. The deadline is March
31.
do not know whether he has
। been saved or not. There won’t
be any of these people who will
stand before God in the White
Throne Judgment that will say
he didn’t know whether he was
a Christian or not. They won’t
say “I thought I was all right.”
They will know now and here
after whether or not they have
trusted in Jesus. Have you ever
heard a person say, “I used to
be a Christian?” This is like
saying “I used to be my moth
er's son.” Can your mother
unborn a daughter because she
wanted a son? If your child
were to be committed to the
federal penitentiary for a crime,
; could you say he is no longer
my son? No, you could not; he
is still your son. If a lost per
: son is born into the family of
God, he can not be unborn.
Many people have taken con
viction for conversion, and
when they lose that conviction
they think they are lost again.
The trouble with this group is.
they have never been born
again. If you were born into a
; family and never came home to
eat, or sleep, people wouldn’t
know you were a member of
(that family. If you don't pray,
attend church and give of your
means we know that you have
never been born into the family
of God, by the new birth.
The question is asked many
times, can others tell if I am a
| Christian? Can they know that
I am saved? (Read I John
2:3,5.) Verse 3: And hereby we
do know that we know him. if
we keep his commandments.
Verse 5: But whoso keepth his
I word, in him verily is the love
of God perfected: hereby know
we that we are in him.
Friend, you aren’t going to
fool another Christian, or your
I pastor, who knows whether you
love God or npt. and you cer
tainly aren't fooling God. Jesus
said “If ye love me, keep my
commandments.” (John 14:15
land 23• "If you love me you will
keep my words." He will keep
my words, not maybe he will, -
I biit. He will. Jesus said. "By
their fruits ye shall know
them." (Matt. 7:16 Show me a
person who says he is a Chris
tian. and does not talk right, I
walk right, live right. I will show
you a person that has never
been redeemed by the blood of
Jesus. Then there are those who
will always say, "You don't
know my heart.” My friend, if
your heart is right with God, it
I will show on the outside. If your
heart is made clean by the blood
