TRYING TO TAKE to the
middle ground in the Cold War
struggle against Communist ag
gression is both idiotic and im
possible.
There is no middle ground.
The Communist aim is to take

a given situa

No amount
of starry-eyed
dreaming or wishful thinking
■will coax Communism over to
the side of the angels. To preach
a lofty doctrine of alleged neu
trality—-besides being rank hy
pocrisy—is to play right into the
Communists’ hands.
A nation is either for world
peace and freedom or against it.
The Soviet-Sino menace is either
vigorously resisted with every
resource available, or the door to
further Communist aggression
is held open.

SOME NATIONS apparently
■will take a lot of kicking around
before they get the message.
India, which has endlessly
preached non-alignment and
neutrality and piously struck a
"holier than thou" pose, provides
a very good case in point.
India’s Prime Minister Jawa
harlal Nehru smugly plays both
ends against the middle, claim
ing some sort of high-sounding
aloofness in the Cold War, and
twitting the West for failing to
recognize the need for so-called
"peaceful co-existence” with

Communism, he has set himself
up as an erstwhile demigod of
peace.
His objectives seem plain to
me. Nehru is selfishly out to get
all he can for India. He courted
the Soviet Union and Red China
for financial aid to his country,
and at the same time extracted
money from the United States.

NEHRU LECTURES on the
philosophical merits of “peaceful
settlements” and "self-determi
nation of peoples,” and then
swallows up tiny Goa, and until
recently, refused to even discuss
with Pakistan the territorial
dispute over Kashmir, a province
India seized with troops.
Nehru’s game appeared to be
going fairly well until the Red
Chinese overran four sections of
the Indian border. The invasion
was like a slap in the face with
a wet towel.
This was more than Nehru
bargained for. "We are getting
out of touch with realities in a
modern world. We are living in
our own creation, and we have
been shaken out of it,” said lie.
Has India really been shaken
into a realization that Commu
nism might indeed be a threat?
The Indian Ambassador to the
United States, H. K. Nehru,
conceded that sooner or later the
Red Chinese mean to destroy
India.
Yet, at the last report, India
was still pushing for admission
of Red China to the United
Nations.
