Georgia, intends to apply-to the
General Assembly of Georgia at
the 1963 session thereof for the
passage of a bill to amend the
charter of the Town of Menlo,
as enacted by Georgia Laws
1903, page 588 et seq., as
amended, which bill will change
the name of the Town of Menlo,
Georgia to the City of Menlo,
Georgia.

Funeral services for Donald Wayne
Griffith. 23. 507 North Congress St., Sum
merville, who died in a Chattanooga hos
pital at 3 a.m. Friday of injuries received
in an automobile accident Feb. 1 in Sum
merville, were held Saturday at the West
Summerville Baptist Church. The Revs.
Billy Jones, A. A. Tanner and Gordon
Green officiated. Interment was in Ami
Cemetery near Menelo.

Saturday, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday,
Feb. 3, at the North Summerville Baptist

ment was in Greenhill Memory Gardens

Funeral services for David Addison
Brown. 36, Summerville Route 1, who
died at 6:18 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, fol
lowing an extended illness, were held at
1 p.m. Friday at the Wayside Baptist
Church. The Revs. G. W. Rosson and Ver
non Pulliam officiated. Interment was in
the family lot of Chapel Hill Cemetery

David Brown
Dies at Age 36
David Addison Brown, age 36,
Summerville Route 1, died
Wednesday night at 6:18 p.m. in
a local hospital following an
extended illness.
Mr. Brown was born in Sum
merville, A'pril 27, 1926, the son
of the late Venice Dodd and
John L. Brown, having spent his
entire life in Summerville.
Surviving are three sisters,
Mrs. Inez Bramlette, Mrs. Essie
Grigsby, both of Summerville
Route 1, Mrs. Frances Perrin,
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one
brother, Winston Brown, Sum
merville Route 1. Two nieces
and four nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held
Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at
the Wayside Baptist Church,
with the Rev. G. W. Rosson and
the Rev. Vernon Pulliam offi
ciating, with burial in the fam
ily lot of Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Cousins served as pallbearers,
and they included Grady Brown,
E. J. Brown, Jack Brown, Kelly
Brown, James Tidmore and
John Headrick.
The J. D. Hill Funeral Home
had charge of the arrange
ments.

For Mr. Tims
John Clayton Tims, 67, resi
dent of Summerville for the
past 21 years, died at 6:55 a.m.
February 2.
Survivors Include his wife,
Mrs. John C. Tims; one daugh
ter, Mrs. Ann Laura Mulkey,
both of Summerville; two sis
ters, Mrs. C. M. Bryan of Sum
merville and Mrs. J. H. Glanton
of Atlanta, Ga. One grandson
and four granddaughters also
survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Tims
were held February 3 at 3 p.m.
at the North Summerville Bap
tist Church, with Rev. Bob
Patterson, Rev. C. E. Reece and
Rev. W. M. Steele officiating.
Burial was In Greenhill Memory
Gardens.
Active pallbearers were: Paul
Rosser, Byron Hines, James
Haygood, James Bryan, Robert
Tims and W. H. Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers included:
Dick Hunter, Darty Cooper, J. R.
Burgess, Jesse Pettyjohn, Clar
ence Booker, Will Stephenson 1 ,
Oscar Woods, Jim Watkins and
Emmett Clarkson.

He will discuss the part the
home and the family play in the
child’s effort to achieve ma
turity.
The program theme will be
built around the founding of
the PTA 66 years ago. Its pur
pose then, and now, is to bring
the home and the school close
together to increase the child’s
welfare, officials point out.
A native of Georgia, Alice Mc-
Lellan Birney, was a founder of
the national PTA organization.
A nursery, with refreshments,
will be conducted by the Future
Homemakers of America.

Dies at Age 75
Willie Miles Broyles, 75, a resi
dent of Route 2, Summerville,
Pennville Community, died unex
pectedly Monday morning at
10:30. He was born in DeKalb
County, Alabama, August 13,
1887, moving to this county in
1934. He was formerly employed
by Riegel Textile Corporation,
Trion Division, in the Weave
Room, retiring in 1955.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Fannie Broyles. Route 2, Sum
merville; three sons, Sherman,
Chester and Billy Broyles, all of
Route 2, Calhoun; four daugh
ters, Mrs. Jannie Dorsey and
Mrs. Willie J. Edwards, both of
Calhoun, Mrs. Sue Reynolds,
Route 2, Summerville and Mrs.
Hattie Cash of Jacksonville,
Florida; two brothers, Frank
Broyles, Chattanooga, Winfred
Broyles, Ft. Payne, Alabama;
two sisters, Mrs. Linnie Knowles,
Albertville, Alabama, Mrs. Bertha
Goggins, Ten Brook, Alabama;
two step-sons, J. E. Hawkins. At
lanta and D. C. Hawkins, Day
tona Beach, Florida; twenty
three grandchildren; fifteen
great - grandchildren and a
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday from the Pennville
Gospel Tabernacle at 3 o’clock
with Reverend Jimmy Green
and Reverend Marshall Lam
bert officiating with burial In
the Trion Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hoyt Vines,
Collie Young, Roy Parker, Tom
Lewis, Emmett Davis and Walter
Roy King.
Erwin Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Willie Miles
Broyles, 75, Summerville Route 2, who
died unexpectedly Monday morning, were
held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Pennville
Gospel Tabernacle. The Rev. Jimmy
Gi/rn and the Rev. Marshall Lambert of
ficiated. Interment was in the Trion
Cemetery.

son Sr., of Chattanooga, son of
Mrs. W. B. Thompson of Sum
merville, died Tuesday after
noon, Feb. 5, in a Chattanooga
hospital.
He was a brother of Mrs.
Howard Bohanan of Summer
ville and his wife was the for
mer Miss Thelma McConkey of
Summerville.
Funeral services were held at
11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the
Rivermont Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Harry Phillips and the
Rev. William Hotchkiss, Sum
merville, officiated. Graveside
services were held at 1 p.m.
(CST) at the Valley Head (Ala.)
Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was an em
ploye of Wheland Co. for more
than 20 years.
Survivors are his wife; a
daughter, Mrs. Mary Veasey of
Atlanta; a son, George Lowry
Thompson Jr. of Chattanooga;
his mother; three sisters, Mrs.
Horace England of Nashville,
Mrs. Sally Tolley of Chatta
nooga and Mrs. Bohanan of
Summerville; two brothers, Paul
Thompson of Chattanooga and
William B. Thompson of Prince
ton, N. J., and two grandsons.
