Funeral services for Troy Leon Petitt,
58, Summerville Route 3, who died at his
home at 5 p.m. Sunday, were held at 2
p.m. Tuesday at the New Antioch Bap
tist Church. The Revs. G. W. Rosson, Sid
ney Dooley and Jimmy Green officiated.
Interment was in the Greenhills Memory
Garden.

Joseph Eddie King, 53, of 1504
North Gault Avenue, Ft. Payne,
Ala., passed away at his home
Saturday, 12 noon. He was a
member of the Fourteenth
Street Baptist Church where he
served as Chairman of the
Board of Deacons and was
active in Sunday School work.
He was a former resident of
Chattooga County and a former
Glove Mill employee.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Ruby Elrod King; son, Terry
Glenn, both of Ft. Payne;
mother, Mrs. Belle King of Sum
merville; three brothers, Eugene
of Centre, Walter Roy and Leon
King, both of Summerville;
three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Cun
ningham of Centre, Ala., Mrs.
Alma Van Pelt of Summerville
and Mrs. Frances Chandler of
Cartersville; three half broth
ers, Dow King of Centre, Horace
King of Birmingham and Jimmy
Isual of Birmingham; one half
sister, Mrs. Pearl Warthington
of Los Angeles, Calif., and a
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Sunday at 2:30 at the Four
teenth Street Baptist Church
with the Reverend Darty Stowe,

Set for Today
Mrs. Sarah Brown Moore, 77, a
resident of Martin Street, Sum
merville, died Wednesday morn
ing in a Rome hospital.
She was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Summerville
and a life-long resident of Chat
tooga County.
Surviving are her husband,
Robert Lee Moore, Summerville;
one son, Joe Moore, Summerville;
five daughters, Mrs. Woodrow
Eleam, Mrs. Billy Allen, Mrs. Em
ma Lee Eason and Mrs. Bill Ford,
all of Summerville, and Mrs. Cic
ero Freeman of Marietta; five
brothers, Will, Clinton, Lee, Joe
and Roy Brown; four susters,
Mrs. Claude Grigsby, Mrs. Nelson
Phelps, Mrs. T. Griffith, and
Mrs. Alva Brown; nine grand
children, seven great-grandchil
dren and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held
today (Thursday) at 3 p.m., from
the Erwin Chapel with the Rev.
J. A. Smith and the Rev. Roger
McDonald officiating. Interment
will be in the Summerville Ceme
tery.
Active pallbearers are: Gordon
Allen, David Ford, Austin Moore,
Steve Pettis, Charles Copeland
and John Shamblin. They are re
quested to meet at the funeral
home at 2:45 p.m.

Dr. Eleanor Bryce Scott, a resi
dent of Summerville for the past
six years, died Friday at 7 p.m.
She had made her home with
her aunt, Mrs. William B.
Thompson, North Congress
Street, Summerville.
Dr. Scott, a well known edu
cator, formerly resided in’Red
Springs, North Carolina where
she was head of the English De
partment In the Flora McDonald
College for Women for 13 years.
She was born in Orlando, Fla.
the daughter of the late Anna
Thompson and Robert P. Scott.
She was the granddaughter of
the late Ella Chapjnan Bryce
and the Rev. William Bryce, who

Dies in Rome
Mrs. Hattie Hix Tillman, 84,
Summerville Route 4, died at
2:30 a.m. Tuesday in a Rome
^convalescent home following an
(extended illness.
She was born in Floyd County
April 11, 1878, daughter of the
'late Gennie High and W. D.
Hix. She was married to Wil
liam Tillman who preceded her
in death several years ago.
Surviving are two nephews,
Hix Sims, Rome, and Lowell Hix,
Route 4, Summerville.

2 p.m. Wednesday from the

Home. The Rev. Roger Stone
officiated. Burial was in the
family lot of Myrtle Hill Ceme

Ed I. Chadwick, age 80, Home
Star Route. Cloudland, died
Sunday night at the residence
following a sudden attack suf
ifered a short time earlier.
A retired farmer, Mr. Chad
wick was born in Valley Head.
Ala., December 24, 1882 the son
of the late Mandy Coop and
John Chadwick, having resided
;in Cloudland for the past 63
years.
He was married to the former
I Miss Ethel Perkins who pre
ceded him in death several
' years ago.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs. E. W. Harris, Rossville;
Mrs. John Evans, LaFayette;
Mrs. Ulen Walsh, Stow, Ohio;
one son Spencer Chadwick,
Cloudland. Twelve grandchil
dren, 16 great-grandchildren, a
number of nieces, nephews and
cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at
the Little River Baptist Church,
Mentone, Ala., with the Rev. Bill
Brown and the Rev. Francis
Cochran officiating with burial
in church cemetery.
Grandsons served as pall
bearers and they included:
Wayne Evans, T. G. Harris,
James Harris, Dewey Harris,
Billy Chadwick and Tommy
Chadwick.

Mrs. Clyde Morton Knighton,
78, of 509 Leighton Avenue,
Anniston, Ala., formerly of
Trion, died Saturday at 8:30
a.m. at her residence.
Funeral services were held
Monday at 10 a.m. in Usrey
Chapel with the Rev. J. Phillips
Nobel officiating. Burial was in
Edgemont Cemetery with Gray
Brown-Service Mortuary in
charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Alvin Kilgore, of Anniston;
a son, Joseph C. Knighton, of
Atlanta; a brother, Bert M.
Morton, of Cleveland, Tenn.;

p.m. He was born in Murray
County April 8. 1904, moving
to this county thirty years ago.
He was a member of the New
Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Gaudle Mae Petitt of Route 3,
Summerville; three daughters,
Mrs. Martha Higgins of Chatta
nooga, Mrs. Vera Thompson of
Summerville and Mrs. Charlotte
Dooley of Summerville; four
sons, Durward. J. W. (Bob),
Harmon and Billy Charles, all
of Summerville; one brother,
Milton Petitt of Dalton; two
sisters, Mrs. Bertie Holsomback
and Mrs. Pauline Keith, both of
Ringgold; twelve grandchildren
and a number of nieces and
nephews.

Miss Eva Allen, a life-long
resident of Chattooga County,
died Thursday at 3:45 a.m. fol
lowing a lengthy illness. Miss
Allen made her home at 1109
Dickeyville Road, Trion.
She was born in Chattooga
County, Ga., May 15, 1896 the
daughter of the late Ida Young
and J. B. Allen.
Surviving are five sisters,

Holt, Miss Mattie Sue Allen,
Summerville; Mrs. C. M. Patrick,
