THE SUMMERVILLE NEWS, SUMMERVILLE, GEORGIA
In a somewhat routine trans
action, the federal government
has recertified the workable
program for community im
provement in Summerville.
This simply means that Sum
merville continues to be avail
able for federal aids in elimi
nating and preventing slums
and blight. Certification is. nec
essary on a year to year basis,
with a community having to
show reasonable progress in
order to be recertified.
Certification is necessary be
fore a community is eligible to
receive federal aids in the form
of loans and grants for urban
renewal and for low-rent public
housing and more liberal FHA
mortgage insurance to assist in
the private redevelopment of
project areas and for rehousing
displaced families.
Such certification does not
constitute approval of any spe
cific federal aid.

Bring $958
The sale of Christmas seals
brought $958 to Chattooga
County, Mrs. W. H. Smith Jr.,
of Lyerly, TB Committee Chair
man, announced this week.
The proceeds are used for
tuberculosis work in the fields
of patient service, prevention,
and health education, she
noted. There are plans to con
tinue the skin test program.
The TB Committee year ends
March 31 and at that time a
complete audit will be made, the
chairman said. She thanked all
who helped in any way in the

Chattooga had 14 new tuber

Smith said, and several cases
were re-activated.
The skin test program brought
out 14 positive reactions at
Summerville Elementary School
and seven positive reactions at
Trion. A positive reaction does
not necessarily mean TB; but
follow-up tests are indicated
and are made.

Z4\ ' Foot trouble
Zs \ \ can be developing
even when feet
don’t hurt
Rarely will your children tell you that they have outgrown their shoes. They simply
can’t feel it.
And poorly fitted shoes, or shoes that are outgrown, can be pressing growing,
pliable young feet out of shape.
That’s why it’s so important to visit us for regular, frequent shoe size check
ups. If a larger size is called for we’ll offer to fit your youngster using the famous
Buster Brown 6-Point Fitting Plan.
This plan measures both feet at all key points — big toe. ball of foot, and heel
— and also allows the right amount of growing room.
