Specialist Furgerson is the son
of Mrs. Minnie Lawson of Tam
pa, Fla., and W. V. Furgerson of .
Chattanooga, Tenn. Born in De-
Kalb County, Ala., and reared in
Summerville, he was drafted in
1953 and has been stationed in
N. C., S. C., N. Y„ N. J., Va., and
completed a 12 months tour in
Iceland. He was discharged in
1958 and became night manager
of Shoney's Rest. no. 2 in New
port News, later he .joined the
Reserves in Hilton Village, Va.,
and served for 2V2 years, then he
returned to active duty March
1961 and was stationed in S. C. j
and N. Y„ and received orders
for overseas assignment Sept,
1961. He reported to Hqs. Co.
Spec. Trps. U. S. Army Hqs.
Europe on Sept. 21, 1961.
Specialist Furgerson is the ।
checker and recipient of rations
for the no. 4 mess hall. When
this enlistment is completed, he
plans to return to civilian life
and settle in Western N. C.
Specialist Furgerson’s foster
parents live on Route 2, Sum
merville, and his Grandmother
lives in Fort Payne, Ala.

Cincinnati—When Patrolman
James Holland finished prac
ticing basketball, at a club, he
found his uniform, including
his badge, shoes, socks and
bullets stolen from the locker.
Holland had taken his gun into
the gym.
Clad only in sweatshirt and
gym shorts, an embarrassed
Holland called a fellow patrol
man to take him home.
Police are not sure whether it
was theft or practical joke.

death of a brother-in-law, Mark
