The Minister
Speaks . . .
By THE REV. T. A. WALLACE
Pastor, Lyerly First Baptist
Text: I am the light of the
world: he that followeth me
shall not walk in darkness.
—John 8:12
The word which Jesus uses
when he speaks of himself as
“the light of the world” signifies
sunlight; the word which he
uses when he refers to John the
Baptist as “a burning and a
shining light” signifies lamp
light. In this bold affirmation
Jesus claims to be the true,
original, creative light, which is
to the spiritual world what the
sun is to the natural world.
He is a personal light. Truth
is revealed by him because it
dwells in him. He gives light be
cause he is light. From what he
is comes his life-giving power.
His life is the light of men.
“Christianity,” says Gladstone,
“is summed up in his own per
son, Christianity is Christ. He is
the Sun of righteousness. In his
light the world is to walk.”
He is the universal light.
Buddha has been called “the
light of Asia”; Christ is the light
of the world”; not one light
among many, but the one sun
in the moral sky of the universe,
the true light, which lighteth
every man that cometh into the
world.
Take away from the world the
light of his presence, and it
would be plunged into darkness
and desolation.
He is an everlasting light, a
light that never goes out. He is
continually shining in the midst
of the darkness of our earthly
night, and shining it away.
Compared with him all other
truthbearers have been tem
porary and transient lights,
lights that have burned for a

CIRCUS PERFORMER
‘’Dixieland’
Group to Give
Concert April 7
Trion’s “Dixieland Seven” will
be presented in concert April 7,
sponsored by the senior class
parents.
The group entertained during
the recent Trion Follies.
Members are: Buddy Daniel,
piano; Darry Pilkington, trom
bone; Marvin Drennan, trum
pet; Charles Sizemore, bass
guitar; Lebron Smith, clarinet;
Buel Richardson, banjo; and Vic
Pettitt, drums.
little while, and then have
flickered out. Such was John
the Baptist. For a season, men
were willing to rejoice in his
light, but his light faded, as all
derived lights do, and those
that followed him had to seek
the unsetting sun.
The cry of the soul is light.
Man gropes his way blindly. He
needs, oh how much he needs,
someone to shed light upon his
pathway. The one he needs he
can find only in the eternal
light, whose coming into the
world has well been called the
sunrise of history.
Never can his power decline;
never can his glory dim. No
benighted tr ave 1 e r following
him will fail to have sufficient
light shining upon his pathway
in the present, and on into the
unknown future. Os himself,
Jesus declares: I am the light
of the world; he that followeth
me shall not walk in darkness
but shall have the light of men.

The new uniform campaign
of the Chattooga High Band
Boosters Club continued this
week, having got off to a good
start with a candy sale last
week.
The 800 bars of candy dis
tributed were sold within a few
days after being handed out last
Thursday night.
The next big project of the
group will be a circus at 8 p.m.
Tuesday at the Chattooga High
gym. Those planning to attend
are urged to buy advance tickets
because the Club gets 40 per
cent of the advance sales but
only 20 per cent of the door
sales. Tickets may be obtained
at McGinnis Drug, Lowry’s,
Shamblin Hardware, Southern
5 and 10 and The Summerville
News.
The circus will feature 10 all
star acts “from international
big top TV programs”. The en
tire family will enjoy the event,
it was stated.
In the meantime, the Band
Boosters continued to call for
public donations to help finance
the new uniforms. A recent con
tribution to this drive was $25
donated by D. T. Espy.
The names of all donors will
be published, provided they give
approval.
Other projects planned by the
Club for financing the uniforms
include a talent show, movie
