Sgt. Culpepper
On Short Tour
In Germany
Staff Sergeant Jimmy D. Cul
pepper, of Trion, has arrived at
Ramstein AB, Germany, for a
period of temporary duty under
the Air Force’s new overseas
rotational assignment program,
Operation Short Spurt.
Sergeant Culpepper, an ad
ministrative specialist, will fe-j
turn to his permanent assign
ment at Patrick AFB, Fla., fol
lowing his Short Spurt tour.
Overseas assignments under the
program are of only a few
months duration.
The sergeant and his wife, the
former Loleata A. Lockhart, of
Route 1, Winfield, Ala., have two,
j children. A graduate of Sum
' merville High School, he is the
! son of E. C. Culpepper of Route
2, Fort Payne. Ala. He entered
the service in August 1953.

Social Security
Office Gives
l ips On Speed
The first three months of the
' year are the busiest for the social
| security district office in Rome.
According to H. Marvin Boat
l wright, district manager, more
people retire and claim retire
ment payments in January,
February, and March than at
any other time during the year.
Since the social security office
can’t hire and train extra help
just for this temporary period.
I they point out certain things
j that retiring workers can do to
help speed up the service they
I get from social security.
One thing that helps Is to call
ahead and find out what day and
time is best to come in. The
social security office doesn’t
make appointments but they can
advise which day and hour is
I best to visit the office. There is
! another advantage to calling
1 ahead before a visit to the social
security office. The social se
i curity people need certain rec-
I ords, such as proof of age. 1962
- earnings, etc., from people who
I claim benefit payments. Some
people need to bring one thing
i and some another. It’s better to
' find out ahead of time what to
: bring in.
Mr Boatwright said that
everybody who works for wages
, should bring their 1962 with
j holding tax statements Self-em-
I ployed people should bring copies
:of their 1962 income tax re
| turns. "We have to include the
' 1962 earnings when we figure the
benefit payments, and it saves
I time if folks bring this informa
tion with them." lie added
Some documentary evidence is
I needed for proof of age. Most
I people have an old insurance
I policy, family Bible, or other old
I record that can be used, but
often forget to bring them to
the social security office when
I they come to claim benefits.
Others go to considerable effort
to get a delayed birth certificate.
This is often unnecessary. "If
you’ll call us before you come in
and tell us what records you
have." Boatwright said. “ we can
tell you which of them to bring ’’
