Coffee Break
By HELEN BUFFINGTON
Summerville is a pretty little city, the visitor from
The Big City said.
There’s something about it that is pleasant and
clean-looking, he continued. The wide streets. The
trees about the courthouse.
We agree.
Have you tried this: Before your little shaver has
to go to the barber shop that first time, prepare him
for the trip several weeks in advance by letting “Daddy”
run the smooth back side of his electric shaver over
the tot’s head. Then the buzzing of the barber’s razor
won’t be new and frightening to him.
The “Daddy” at our house thought up this one
and it worked like magic on the older lad so he’s now
preparing the younger one.
At one family table I know, no “Grace” is said. But
neither is the Giver of all Good Things forgotten. Each
head is bowed and each member silently says his in
dividual thanks.
A touching scene: Husky, newly-pinned Eagle
Scouts placing an affectionate kiss on their mother’s
cheek during pinning ceremonies.
If rumor is correct, Chattooga may not be without
Overnight accommodations too much longer. Although
details can’t yet be revealed there is persistent rumor
of something developing along this line.
A man who has visited in many industrial plants
across the country says the operation at Riegel’s Trion
Division—where raw cotton becomes beautifully-dyed
fabrics—is the most interesting he has ever seen.
The person making the comment was a film di
rector. He recently did a Coosa Valley area film which
included scenes at Riegel.
