Russell have been advised that
Ihe federal government plans to
conduct a six-year study of pol
lution in river basins in Georgia
and other Southeastern states.
The study’s principal objective
will be to determine how much
municipal and industrial centers
have affected the future use of
ground water in the area, what
the present uses of water are.
and what alternative uses there
may be,
To be carried out under the
Water Pollution Control Act. the
study will be directed by Alec
Alexander of the U. S. Public
Health Services’ Atlanta Re
gional Office.
Georgia river basins desig
nated for the study are the
Appalachicola - Chattahoochee-
Flint., the Altamaha “and
others." In all, eight basins in
Georgia. Florida, Alabama and
Mississippi will be studied under
this project.

Exploits Told

The combat exploits of Presi
dent Kennedy are told in “PT
109,” a film coming Sunday,
Monday and Tuesday to The
Tooga Theatre in Summerville.
Cliff Robertson portrays the
young lieutenant who later be
came president. The story begins
April 7, 1943 when a Japanese
aerial bombing attack welcomed
Lt. Kennedy to the Solomons
and continues through the re
markable events that followed
the night and early morning of
August 2, 1943 when the battle
scarred patrol-torpedo boat 109
was cut in two by a Japanese
destroyer.
The people who take their
work seriously are usually the
ones who have the permanent
