Sixteen taxi license applica

1 was set as the deadline for
। purchase of these licenses.
Final adoption of an ordi
nance to do away -with mid
block left turns took place at
the meeting. Under this ordi-'
nance, motorists who cut across!
the yellow lines to the left will j
be liable for prosecution.
The mayor and council also
adopted the business license I
rates as advertised.
The dog pound ordinance was
amended to provide for licenses;
serving from Jan. 1-Dec. 31 of
each year instead of over- j
lapping.
Efforts to ease the traffic
congestion problems at the in- I
tersection of the Lyerly Road
and Rome Boulevard are under
way, it was reported at the
meeting.
The State Highway Depart
ment plans to let two lanes of
traffic flow from the Lyerly
Road into the other street in
order that both left and right
turns can be made simultane
ously, Councilman Bill Selman j
reported.
Plans also are underway to
erect a traffic light at the in
tersection.
The group discussed plans to
meet with the Summerville Rec
reation Board at the request of
the recreation group. The meet- i
ing is expected to be held within
the next month.
Councilman Selman proposed
that the city help furnish ma
terials for the erection of a new
facilities building at the Pony
League and Little League fields, j
noting that the labor would be'
contributed by members of the
Lions Club and Junior Chamber
of Commerce, sponsoring clubs
for the two leagues. He noted
that the Health Department had
ruled the present rest room
facilities at the fields as unsatis
factory.

Seven members of the Chat
tooga High School band have!
been chosen to participate in a
Seventh District Red and Blue:
Band concert Saturday night in
Cartersville.
The concert is held each year
in conjunction with the State
Music Education Assn, as a
means of furthering music edu
cation. The red band plays
Class A and B music and the
blue band plays Class B and C
music.
Chosen from Chattooga High
were: Barry Gilreath, senior,
red, trumpet; Barry Bohanan,
senior, red, trumpet; Henry
Barrow, senior, red, trombone; !
Gordon Allen, senior, red, per
cussion; Ralph Kennemer, soph
omore, blue, trombone; James
Prince Jr., sophomore, blue,
tuba; Lebron Smith, sophomore,
blue, clarinet.
After a fuli day of concen
trated practice under the lead
ership of two clinicians chosen
by the State Music Education
Assn., the concert will be held
at 7 pin. at the Cartersville
High School auditorium. The*
red band will perform first, fol
lowed by the blue band.
Admission will be free and
any Chattooga students, parents
or faculty members wishing to
attend may go. A bus will leave
at 5:30 p.m. Saturday from the
Band Building and arrive back
! about 11 p.m. Those interested
!in riding the bus should call
