unusual rock
Kock Fomul in Holland Area
Said to Be Petrified Mussel
An unusual rock found recently near Holland apparently
is a petrified mussel shell.
It may have originally been in the Chattooga River.
Mark Strawn found the rock on the side of a road which
had just had fresh dirt hauled in from a cut made for the new
Holland-Chattoogavilie Road. The latter crosses the Chat
tooga River.
Lyerly School Principal Lamar Parker said after a look
at the rock that it is probably a type of mussel shell and had
apparently been carried to the site where it was found.
Some types of mussels are “abundant especially in rivers
of the central United States,” says the dictionary. Their
shells are used in making buttons, etc., the dictionary con

delegates and alternates to the
state convention, which will
tame the highways . . . with a vengeance almost
unseemly in a compact.
Try a Valiant this week. We suggest you see how
it performs in the clinches as well as around town.
And Valiant backs its performance with a 5-year
or 50,000-mile engine and drive-train warranty.*
