Oak Hill Jottings

The annual homecoming of
the Oak Hill Methodist Church
will be Sunday, August 2. The
new pastor, Rev. John M Miller,
will bring the 11 o’clock mes
sage. A basket lunch will be
spread at the noon hour. The
Southerners Quartet of Sum
merville and other special sing
ers will be there to sing. All for
mer pastors and the public are
invited to attend.
S/Sgt. and Mrs. Travis Meigs
and boys, of Fort Bliss. Texas,
are here visiting her father. Alex
Holt, and Mrs. Holt and other
relatives this week.

TOWN BENEFACTOR Kenneth W. Pollock (right) of Fort Scott,
Kan., emerges from the basement fallout shelter area of the
city building where extra ventilating equipment (see vents in
background) made it possible to protect about 1,000 persons—
many more than could be accommodated otherwise. Using data
on the best available local shelter areas in existing structures
provided by the Defense Department’s National Fallout Shelter
Survey, Pollock has spent about SIB,OOO so far to improve shelters
for 6,600, and will go to $50,000 if necessary to improve fallout
shelters for the town’s 10,000 inhabitants. Money for the project
comes from the charity fund of'Key Work Clothes, Inc., a local

To Visit Penn
Church Today
The International Gospel
Team of Azusa College, Azusa,
Calif, will be speaking and sing
ing at the evening service of
Pennville Alliance Church,
Route no. 2, Summerville, at 7:30
p. m. today (Thursday) the Rev.
C. W. Crowe has announced.
The Azusa College Interna
tiona Gospel Team is a versatile
group presenting a varied pro
gram of music.
The team consists of Manuel
Hagopian of Athens, Greece and
Professor Marvin Mardock.
Witnesses to
Send Delegates
The Summerville congregation
of Jehovah’s Witnesses will be
represented by a delegation of
local people at a religious con
vention in Greenville, S. C. Au
gust 6-9.
The announcement by D. H.
Sandman, presiding minister,
stated the convention will be one
of 37 to be held in the United
States this summer. An esti
mated 8,000 delegates are ex
pected for the Greenville gath
ering.
Treadaway Ends

Anny Pvt. Jimmy F. Tread
away. son of Mr. and Mrs. Lon
nie C. Treadaway, 3 Ridge Street,
Trion, completed an eight-week
genera] supply course July 17 at
Fort Polk, La.
Treadaway received instruc
tion in the receipt, storage and
issue of supplies and material.
The 20-year-old soldier en
tered the Army in March 1964
and completed basic training at
Fort Gordon.
He attended Trion High School.
Man, as a general rule, thinks
well of himself.
