MRS. REYNOLDS TO WRI TE
TRION SOCIALS FOR NEWS
The Summerville Nows is happy to announce the
addition of Mrs. Jewie Reynolds of Trion to its corps at
fine community correspondents.
She will begin writing the Trion social column
next week. ~ , , .
Mrs. Reynolds, wife of Will Reynolds, worked at
the Trion Division of Riegel Textile Corporation some
22 years. She retired two years ago after falling and suf
fering a broken back. For 15 years, Mrs. Reynolds wrote
a column in the Riegel publication, The Trion Facts

Program Sat.
Two Chattooga Oountians had
prominent parts on the Carters
Dam "Progress Celebration” held
Saturday at Chatsworth.
They were Rep John W Davis
and John Bankson, both of Sum
merville.
Mr Bankson, who is chairman
of the Coosa Valley Area Plan
ning and Development Commis
sion. introduced Rep Davis who
in turn introduced the keynote
speaker, Sen. Richard B. Russell.
J C Woods. Trion mayor and
Coosa Commission member, and
Summerville Councilman O. H.
Perry also attended.
The occasion was a breakfast
at a Chatsworth restaurant.
Afterwards. Sen. Russell in
spected the $74 million Carters
Dam which is on the Coosa
wattee River.
The event was sponsored by
the Carters Dam Steering Com
mittee, which has representa
tives from Murray, Pickens. Gor
don. Gilmer and Floyd Counties.
The Coosawattee is one of the
headwaters of the Coosa River.
The dain was authorized by
Congress in 1945 as part of the
comprehensive development of
the Alabama-Coosa River system
and preliminary work began in
1962 The dam is scheduled for
completion in 1970.
The project will consist of a
high rolled-rock dam with an
ekrth core: three saddle dikes
filling in low' areas on the south
rim of the reservoir: a spillway
on the south bank; an intake
structure: a powerhouse and a
switchyard on the north bank;
and a reregulation dam 6.000 feet
' downstream.
It will be the highest earth
rock dam east of the Mississippi
River. The lake will extend up
the river about 11 miles and will
I cover 3.220 acres.
