Engagement of Miss Howell,
Joseph E. Loggins Announced
The engagement of Miss Helen Joyce Howell of Ross
ville and Joseph Elmer Loggins, son of Mrs. James Wheeler
Loggins of Trion and the late Mr. Loggins, is announced by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ralph Howell, of Estill
Springs, Tenn., formerly of
Trion.
The wedding will be in April at
the Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist
Church.
Miss Howell is the grand
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmon
Eugene Howell of Trion and
James William Spann of Bir
mingham, Ala. and the late Mrs.
Spann. She is a graduate of Ed
mondson College of Business,
Chattanooga, Tenn., and is em
ployed by John L Hutcheson Jr.
of Happy Valley Farms, Rossville.
She has no brothers or sisters.
Mr. Loggins, Summerville at
torney and state senator for the
53rd Senatorial District, is the
grandson of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Newell Williams of
Trion and the late Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Loggins of LaFayette. He
is the brother of Mrs. Fred Max
well of Trion.
Mr. Loggins attended the Uni
versity of Georgia for three and
one-half years and graduated
from the Woodrow Wilson Col
lege of Law in Atlanta with the
LLM degree. He is secretary of
the Lookout Mountain Bar Assn.,
is a former member of the Geor
gia House of Representatives
from Chattooga County and was
selected for a 1965 Outstanding
Young Men of America Award
by the Junior Chamber of Com
merce.

eight persons present.
A tourist asked a Seminole In
dian, “What’s that necklace
made of?”
“Alligator teeth,” he replied.
"Oh, I see. I suppose they have

as pearls do for us?”

Miss Janice Ruth McCain and John Franklin Hender
son of Rome were united in marriage in an impressive can
dle lit ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs, John D. McCain, of Route
2, Rome, Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The wedding vows were spoken
in the beautifully-decorated
living room of the home before
a host of friends and relatives.
Officiating was Minister E. J.
Fletcher of the Lyerly Church of
Christ.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, was
lovely in her pleated street
length white luster satin dress
with a fitted bodice featuring a
scalloped neckline and long
pointed sleeves of Chantilly lace.
Her head-piece was a crown of
crystals with a white veil flowing
from it. She carried a white Bible
covered with a corsage of yellow
roses and white carnations tied
with yellow satin streamers. Her
bridal dress was made and pre
sented to her by her mother.
Mrs. Evett Horton of Rome was
the matron of honor and the
bride’s only attendant. She wore
a yellow crepe two-piece dress
featuring Chantilly lace over the
waist which was fitted and had
a high neckline. Her flowers were
yellow roses and white carna
tions. She also wore white acces-

Club met at the home of Mrs.
H. D. Brown on Wednesday, De
cember 9.
Mrs. J. W. King and Miss Annie
Pitts served as co-hostesses and
they were assisted by Mrs. Hoyt
Farmer.
Mrs. John Bankson introduced
the guest leader, Miss Helen
Dean Rhodes, of Rome, who dis
cussed understanding and ap
preciation of modern music. Par
ticular emphasis was given to
the works of Aaron Copeland.
Miss Rhodes presented a
group of Chattooga Countlans
who played “Sylvia” and "O Holy
Night”. The ensemble was com
posed of Mrs. Hoyt Vines, Mrs.

Miss Patricia Louise Anderson,

Loren Edmunds in a double-ring
ceremony performed at the First
Lutheran Church, Chattanooga,
Tennessee, at 8:00 p.m. on De
cember 4, the date of her par
ents’ wedding. The Reverend
Everett G. Grese, pastor of the
church, officiated. Miss Isa Mc-
Ilwraith was organist and Mrs.
John Hinkle of Edgar Springs,
Missouri, the bride’s aunt, was
soloist. Steve Meyer served as
acolyte. The bridegroom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L.
Edmunds of Chatsworth, Califor
nia.

of Trion, the bride wore her
mother’s wedding gown of an
tique ivory satin with sleeves and
bodice of delicate Florentine
lace. Her double-tiered veil was
cloud-fine silk net attached to
a tiara of pearled crystals; it was
elbow length. The white prayer
book she carried was topped by a
white orchid and the satin rib
bon streamers were intertwined
with stephanotis.
Miss Teresa Anderson attended
her sister as maid of honor. She
was attired in a dress of patriot
blue silk taffeta brocade with

The monthly meeting of the
Menlo Junior 4-H Club was held
Fuday in the school lunchroom.
A Christmas program was
planned and presented by the
vice-president, Peggy Gross and
Tim Hegwood.
The 1965 project manuals were
distributed. Separate demon
strations were given. Miss Omie
Wiley showed us how to make
peanut butter goodies and bath
room accessories suited for
Christmas gifts.

seafoam blue of taffeta and net.
She carried a nosegay of pink
carnations.
John Vinson of Atlanta, acted
as best man. Tommy Anderson,
brother of the bride, was ring
bearer. Ushers were Leon Harris
and Eric Harris of Edgar Springs,
Missouri, cousins of the bride.
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Anderson selected a simple
midnight blue silk crepe with
matching accessories. Her cor
sage was of white carnations.
Following the ceremony, a re
ception was held at the home of
Mrs. Walter M. Anderson, Lake
view. Miss Grace Pfitzer kept the
bride's book. Assisting in serving
were Mrs. John Neal, Misses
Johanna Stutz and Grace Swaim,
and Mrs. Walter Brewer. Floral
arrangements of white glads,
stock and pompoms with can
dlelabra adorned the iiome.
For travel, the bride donned a
powder blue wool jersey dress ac
cented by her white orchid cor
sage. After a short wedding trip,
the couple will be at home in At
lanta, where the groom Is sta
tinned with the U. S. A. Corps.
