There will be a homecoming at Chelsea Baptist Church,
Sunday, August 6. Rev. Paul Waters, Jr., will preach at the
11 am. hour, and at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Williams will preach.
Judge Claude Porter and Honorable Fred Kelley will speak
during the day. Every body is invited to come and bring a
well filled basket.
Mrs. W. H. Gardner, of Calhoun, and daughter, Betty
Jo, were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Rice Morgan. Betty
Jo remained for a ten day stay while her parents attend the
World’s Fair in New York.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hemphill and daughter, Betty, spent
last week at their summer home at Blue Ridge.
Miss Carrie Gamble, of Chattanooga came Friday for
an extended visit with the Gamble. Weesner and Scott fam
ilies.
Richard Hoyt Allmon, 20, son of Mrs. Mattie Ayers All
mon, of Chattanooga (formerly of Chattooga County), has
received his BA degree at Carson Newman College, Jeffer
son City, Tenn. Allmon is a ministerial student and will en
ter Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth,
Texas, this fall.
Miss Dorine Longley, of Centre, Ala., spent the week
end with her family in Menlo.
There will be a Preacher’s Convention at Mentone Meth
odist Church Friday. All day service and special music.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hix, Jr., and little daughter, Lu
cile, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Fulton, Sr.
Lowell Hix left Friday for summer school at the University
of Georgia, Athens.
Mrs. J. M. Bellah is able to be up following a recent
illness.
In the Oak Hill News —Crops are looking fine in this
section after nice rains have fallen recently . . . Most of
the men in our community are helping gather the abundant
peach crop at this time.
C. B. Fulton, Jr., of Summerville, has been awarded a
SIOO scholarship to the University of Georgia College of
Agriculture. One of twenty-two Georgia youths to receive
this award, he was given this scholarship on the basis of
scholastic and livestock activities.
The Holland Home Demonstration Club is having a pic
nic today at Mrs. Jim White’s spring, changed from Brison’s
because of illness of Mrs. Brison’s sister, Mrs. Edgar Jones.
Mrs. Elbert Housch and children, Mrs. Roy Housch and
Sue and Mrs. Glennon Packer were guests Saturday of Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Bankey in Trion.
Jobs were found for forty-eight unemployed Chattooga
County workers by the Georgia State Employment Service
during the month of June, the bureau of unemployment
compensation has announced. All were placed on public
works projects. This county is served by the Rome office,
which reported total placements of 502 during June.
Throughout the state, local employment officers found jobs
for 9,312 unemployed men and women.
John Scott and sisters, Misses Mary Sue, Maddie, Janie
and Elizabeth Scott, of Gore, spent last week visiting the
New York World’s Fair, Washington, D.C., and other points
of interest en route. In Washington they were guests of
cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hollins. Mrs. Hollins was for
merly Miss Frances Weesner.
Mr. and Mrs. George Welch, Jr., Mrs. George Welch, Sr.,
Bob Welch and Francis Jones, of Menlo, attended the Jones
reunion in Rock Spring Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. James M. Gamble and children, Francina,
Gene and Carolyn, of Bangor, Maine, were honor guests at
a Fourth of July picnic and reunion of the Gamble and
Weesner families. Other kin from Chattanooga, Birming
ham and Edna, Ala., Atlanta, Lyerly, Gore and Summerville
were present for festivities at Pleasant Green, with Billy
Gamble, host, and Misses Cora and Annie Gamble, Mrs.
Mamie Cameron and Mrs. Lula Henry, hostesses. Around 75
were present.
Miss Dorothy Dean Loser, of Nahsville, Tenn., is the
house guest of Miss Bolling Brown.
Misses Peggy and Barbara Crawford are spending this
week in Atlanta, the guests of Miss Lurlene Crawford.
Miss Helen Sue Woods is in Washington, D.C., for a
visit with her father.

Mrs. Martha Kane, of Atlanta, is spending several days

Supt. Frank Dillard, who is attending summer school at
Emory University, spent the week-end here with his family.
The Chattooga Garden Club sponsored a broiling party
July 13, at Dr. Hair’s Cabin. Chicken plates sold for 50 cents.
Money raised was to be used to beautify the town and high
ways leading into town.
Who shot the last deer In Chattooga County? A. S. Lewis,
Summerville, Route 2, claims he shot the last deer in 1902.
Mr. Lewis states he shot one in February, 1902, and another
in September, 1902, using a 12 gauge shotgun with No. 4
shot, and one with buckshot.
Mrs. Boyce Arp and her mother, of Berryton, are guests
of relatives on Round Mountain.
J. F. Pless returned Wednesday after spending several
weeks with relatives in Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Miss Juanita Romine, of Summerville, and Miss Lorene
Jones, of Trion, have been named winners of nice new Bibles
at the Church of God, of the Union Assembly. Bibles are
awarded, each month to some boy or girl who attends Sun
day School.
