and librarian for 24 years.

of Trion, was the setting for
a recent brunch, given in
honor of Miss Nancy Little,
whose marriage to Dr. Mur
rell Clark, of Chattanooga,
will be an event of June 16.
Co-hostesses for the occa
sion were Mrs. Ewert Wilson
and Mrs. Joe Gaffney.
The house was beautifully
decorated throughout with a
profusion of spring flowers
and magnolia blossoms. An
exquisite color scheme of
turquoise and white was ef
fectively carried out in the
dining room.

The American Legion Auxiliary met last week with Mrs.

vice president; Miss Florence Powell, corresponding secre
tary and historian; Mrs. R. F. Trimble, recording secre

and Mrs. Frank Shropshire.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marks came Tuesday from Nash
ville, Tenn., for a visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Marks, and family.
Miss Nelle Hammond is visiting Mr. and Mrs. David
Jones in Fayetteville, N. C.
Chattooga Red Cross chapter shipped to Red Cross De
pot, Sea Girt, N. J„ the following garments for our armed
forces: 20 army helmets, 18 army sleeveless sweaters, two
pairs wristlets. Refugee garments included 64 children’s
night gowns, 59 women’s night gowns, 86 women’s petti
coats, 20 women’s slips. Ladies of Menlo, Miss Parish’s WHD
club members, joined in helping the Summeville ladies in
this work.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam White, of LaFayette, are visiting rela
tives here.
Mrs. Heywood Brumby and Miss Evelyn Henry, of Wash
ington, D. C., will be week-end guests in the homes of Mrs.
A. T. Powell and B. A. Powell in Berryton.
Mrs. S. W. Favor left Tuesday for Atlanta to attend the
American Legion state convention. She is a guest at the
Kimball Hotel.
Miss Lois McWhorter is spending this week in Menlo the
guest of Miss Mildred McWhorter.

Miss Fay Morton became the bride of Pvt. Robert Wil
liam King, of Menlo, stationed at Heart Mountain, Wyo.,
in the study of the First Methodist Church in Billings, Mont.,
with the Rev. Forest D. Werts, pastor, officiating, on June
12, 1943. The bride is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Samuel
Weston Morton and the late Mr. Morton. She is the sister
of Mrs. Ray Jackson, Henagar, Ala., Mrs. H. D. Barrow and
Horace Morton, of Atlanta. The groom is the son of Mrs. Ed
gar King and the late Mr. King. He is the brother of Mrs.
James Abney. Menlo, and Jamas King, of Camp Crowder, Mo.
ALEXANDER-McWILLIAMS
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. McWilliams, of Trion, announce
the marriage of their daughter, Prances, to Cpl. Barry
Alexander. The marriage was solemnized at the home of
the bride Sunday p.m. June 27. Rev. Elmer Enlow, pastor
of Menlo Presbyterian Church, officiated. The bride is the
sister of Miss Bettie McWilliams, Sgt. Eugene McWilliams,
of Parris Island. S. C., and Tommy McWilliams, of Mari
etta. Cpl. Alexander is the son of Mrs. Watson Alexander
and the late Mr Alexander. He is presently stationed at
Fort Meade. Md.
Cpl. and Mrs. Walter Godwin, of Roswell, New Mexico,
are guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Godwin.
Farmers on Sand Mountain are very busy working gar
dens and crops after the nice rains we have had.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack McElroy, of Nashville, Tenn., Mr. and
Mrs. Hinton Logan were luncheon guests Wednesday of Mr.
and Mrs. Glenn Hendrix.
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Bankson have returned to their
home in Talladega, Ala., after a visit with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. C. N. Cheek. Monday they visited friends in Trion.
Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Allen, Sr., returned Tuesday after
a week’s visit with their daughter. Mrs. S. B. Stevens, Mr.
Stevens and family in Logansville.
Miss Mayme Smith, Mrs. Bill House and Mrs. Susie Hol
land, of Holland, were in Summerville Monday to visit Mrs.
Dan Smith who is ill in the hospital.

The News I enjoy reading news of my home town and
Chattooga County while I’m in service. I wonder if you can
publish team standings of the Southern Association. I know
all the boys from Chattooga County who are overseas would
like to read about their favorite teams. Thank you again.
