business portion, Mrs. John
Bankson introduced one of
the club’s members, Mrs.
Duke Espy, an accomplished
pianist, who presented a
brief program on “Georgia’s
Contemporary Composers.”
For her first selection, she
played an arrangement,
“The Witch Doctor,” by the
late Paul Nixon, who was a
resident of Rome. Words
quoted by Owen Lively,
“Dark as his continent Is
the Witch Doctor. Strange
incantations, wlerd flames,
magic spells—and woe to
him upon whom falls his
evil eye,” expressed the
feeling cultivated by this
haunting melody.
Mrs. Espy, who is very
modest about her own ac
complishments, was
prompted to play an ar
rangement of her own, for
which she has written both
the words and music, "A
Lovely Melody for You.” It
was truly a lovely melody
and the members appre
ciated her sharing it with
them.
Hostesses for the occasion,
Mrs. Surles and Miss Louise
McCollum, served congealed
salad and punch for re
freshments.

Verses for Meditation
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when
he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord
hath promised to them that love Him. Let no man say when
he is tempted, I am tempted o fGod: For God cannot be
tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man: But every
man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and
enticed.
