OK Bill On
Succession
A bill allowing Gov. Lur
leen Wallace and seven oth
er state constitutional offi
cers to succeed themselves
has swept through the Ala
bama Senate by a 30-4 mar
gin.
The Senate approved the
measure last week after re
fusing 21-11 to exclude the
present governor from Its
terms. Some of those who
voted against allowing Mrs.
Wallace to succeed herself ।
switched later and approved
the bill.
Senate action sent the
measure to the House. If ap
proved by that chamber, it
will be submitted to the vot
ers in a state-wide referen
dum. Under its terms, the
eight officials could hold of
fice for a maximum of two
consecutive terms.
